Hold your horses there, Guggy.

From the bit of experimenting I did, it seems that music is stereo, and everything else is mono. The thing about ingame music is that it is stereo, while we only have a mono encoder. One time, I encoded my own music into mono .ess, replaced the wargame music, but it plays about 2-3x fast for some reason (maybe because stero is used to reading twice as much info at one time?

But with both mono and stereo, you have the problem of the set timer. It seems like the file will only play for a preset amount of time and will cut off with static if the file you insert is longer than that. So it's not "entirely doable".

Any idea why Im getting static for the entire duration of the sound then? I match it precisely using Audacity to the exact length of the file its replacing.

You're converting from .wav, right?

Yes. Decoding from .ess to .wav, then encoding again in .ess.

Has anyone found a solution? After a little bit of trial and error I found that the .ess encoder provided only works with 16 bit WAVs. It doesn't process 32 bit for whatever reason. Upon inspection of the decoded .ess files they all appear to be 32 bit sound files. Perhaps the sound files need to be encoded in 32 bit for them to work with the game and not produce static? If so we should probably find a way to encode 32 bit .ess files. Could be a gamechanger on the sound front.

I don't know that much about digital audio, but I know that then encoder is for mono only. Music is stero and all other sounds are mono I believe.
