Faust, Kvasius and I are proud to announce Wargame's competitive balance mod. As it seems that Eugen is starting to tone down development of Wargame: Red Dragon to focus on their other unannounced titles, we feel that Wargame could benefit from something like this

We envision the Faustmann Balance Mod to be, in a sense, a continuation of development for WG:RD in the form of balance patches, to make for a healthier game. We are not looking to reinvent the wheel, all the old things that made Wargame fantastic will be retained, think of FBM to be more of a "Wargame Enhanced" or "Vanilla++" sort of mod. We will largely focus on tweaks and changes that make more factions and units viable and interesting, and mostly avoid touching the mechanics themselves.

What to expect:

  • More diverse coalitions
  • Lower discrepancy between units
  • A focus on game balance
  • Around the current level of realism

What NOT to expect:

  • A total conversion mod
  • Your favorite unicorn unit
  • A focus on realism

Here is an idea of how we proceeded with changing the gamebalance:
We attempt to find realistic solutions to problems, but the realism (mostly time frame) can be bent within reason.
The game will be balanced around coalitions, in order to do that, the prototype tag is used as a balance tool. Think of it as "national trait".
Each faction should have its own flavour and playstyle, in order to achieve that we balance with as little standardization as possible, but as much as needed.

Furthermore, this is our roadmap of coalitions to revisit and/or rebalance:

Major Coalition Rebalance:
  • Red Dragons
  • Eurocorps
  • Scandinavia
  • Blue Dragons

Minor Coalition Reworks:
  • NORAD
  • Commonwealth
  • Israel

Revisit:
  • Soviet Union
  • Eastern Bloc
  • Entente
  • Baltic Front

Faustmann Balance Mod Release V1.0

Postby Razzmann » Tue 31 Jan 2017 16:44

All the files here.
Mod + Manager.
Optional Icon pack.

How the Mod Manager works:

Spoiler : :
It is fairly simple, first just unzip the file. Then, when you start the WargameModManager.exe you just have to select the path that leads to the Wargame Data folder (for me this is E:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common). After that you are basically set to go:
Image

From that point on, whenever you start the .exe again you will be asked whether you want to play Vanilla or Faustmann version and it just swaps the necessary files around. That means without much trouble you can easily switch between the normal and modded game:
Image

It also creates seperated user files which means that the modded and vanilla decks are seperated from eachother and you dont have to recreate your decks each time you switch the version!

The mod manager also automatically updates the files each time there is a new version (it checks everytime you start the manager).

Basically, always run Wargame from that ModManager and you never have to go through the trouble of exchanging files, "repairing" decks etc. ever again!

Detailed Info from the ModManager developer himself:
Spoiler : :
------ BASIC INFO -----------

This tool automates the replacement of mod files. This includes .dat files in your Wargame install dir and your WRD player profile in STEAM_INSTALL_DIR\userdata\...\251060\remote.

The program has not been extensively tested in multi-user settings. If multiple people play Wargame on your computer, you should either:
-have everyone use the same ModManager
-OR launch the game using the vanilla configuration after every play session, so that the game is restored to unmodded state.

------ DETAILS --------------

The program does two things when you select a configuration and launch:
1. Mod installation. The contents of the mods/modname/bin folder will be copied to the corresponding wargame subdir. Any files that are being replaced will be backed up to the mods/vanilla folder if they don't exist there already.
2. Profile management. Wargame profiles are located in [STEAM_INSTALL_DIR\userdata\...\251060\remote]. There, modmanager will make a text file recording which configuration was played last time, and a profile for each launch configuration.
2.a. When you launch the game, modmanager will save any profile changes from your last session, and load the appropriate mod-specific profile.
2.b. Note that the program has no way of knowing which of your Steam accounts you're logged into, so all of them will be changed in each launch. This is unlikely to cause issues but is important if you deleted the program and are undoing its changes manually.

------ TROUBLESHOOTING --------------

If selecting "vanilla" launches a modded version of the game, delete the contents of the modmanager/mods/vanilla folder and verify the integrity of WRD through Steam.

It is not recommended to use multiple copies of modmanager. If you want to be able to launch it from multiple places, use shortcuts, don't copy the entire folder.

During updates, if you get an error about a file already existing in ../TEMP, go to the mentioned TEMP directory and delete the mentioned file. Also, it would be nice if you report the specific circumstances that caused the error to me.

The mods/ folder contains all launch configurations. Renaming the folders will change the display name for the mods. It's also likely to make modmanager create a new player profile for the renamed mod, so adjust the names in STEAM_INSTALL_DIR\userdata\...\251060\remote accordingly if you want to avoid this.

mods/vanilla is a special folder and should not be renamed. This is your backup folder. When modmanager replaces a wargame file for the first time, that's where the "original" goes.

------ UNINSTALL --------------

Before deleting this tool, launch the game with the "vanilla" option so that any mods are removed. After that you can just delete this folder.
Alternatively, verify integrity of game files and copy the vanilla player profile to STEAM_INSTALL_DIR\userdata\...\251060\remote.

------ FOR MOD MAKERS --------------

Mods go in mods/modname/bin/. Modname can be anything.

You can either put the file in its version folder [like mods/modname/bin/354645637/436543636/ZZ_Win.dat];
Or you can put it directly in bin/, in which case the program will try to find and replace the newest file of the same name.

The manager will only let you launch one mod, but if you have two that are compatible with each other you can put them in the same modname/bin folder to get around that limitation.

If you want to set up auto update for your mod, you'll need a (free to make) github repository. For details, look at a working example or read https://github.com/pvutov/WargameModMan ... STRUCTIONS .

Alternatively, PM me on the eugen forum: memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=18222
Feature requests and general comments are welcome too.

Manual installation (not recommended):

Spoiler : :
If you want to install the mod manually, all you have to do is pull the Data folder found in the zip file into the Wargame Red Dragon main folder. It will ask you whether you want to overwrite some files, say "yes" everytime.

However this is not recommended since it does not automatically update the mod and takes longer to switch between mod and vanilla.

Just buff, and buff... RPG inf. ACC and range is beyond even worse and now RD gets and uber RPG weapon. 25 AP, 70% ACC at 1225 m range. Aham. Is more accurate than a guided ATGM.

This is insane... In ranked (or 1 v1 lobby) this unit is simply OP. It can kill any approaching inf outside of MG range and can kill and APC, only some IFV can case trouble. Even top tier tanks can be kill by spam this... What avail will have 0/6/4/0/0. If it will have general FIST team avail I can see where it leads this unit...

I don't see any bankinformation in case we want a specific unit buffed(?)

For real tho:
What to expect: A focus on game balance..

Tanke Shashou ‘95
PW-80 replaced with PF-98 (70% Acc / 1225M / 25AP / 2 HE / 7RPM / 8 Rockets)

^lel. Because Gornos '90 in ground transport wasn't cancer.

Molni, PF 98 is not just a RPG, it has an effective range of 800m irl with laser range finder , wind ballistic calculator and FCS

Image
That box next to it holds all the calculation.
And not, its not OP, cause it has really short range, slightly more than Eyrx but low rof. and it deserves 3 HE in my opinion or at least 2 HE with napalm
