I want to direct everyone to this thread here: viewtopic.php?f=155&t=47915

It's a new program that I'm sponsoring which is meant to create a framework that allows new players to get in contact with mentors and hopefully learn the game. Like what I'm doing here, but on a bigger scale.

If you want to just come to me directly, then that's fine, I will still maintain this thread. But if you have trouble getting in touch with me, or I've been busy, then please give the above link a try as well!

Considering that there's a big Wargame sale right now, maybe another new player night type of thing is in order?

Hey Raven, this seems to be the best thread to ask about this without opening a new thread, so here goes:

I've put about 300 hours into Wargame: ALB, most of it MP. I used to play with either a USSR deck, a Czech deck, a Swedish or a US deck. I've now finally joined the Red Dragon party and am gearing up for more wargaming after a long hiatus. It'll probably take me a while to get up to snuff but it'll come back.

However, I am wondering about the changes in balance between ALB and RD. Has there been a massive change? How is the meta-game? Are Spetsnaz and flamers still as strong as before? Is arty-spamming still used a lot? If you have the time, could you give me a few pointers on the greatest differences in the game between RD&ALB?

Thanks in advance and I'm glad to be back :D

Well, a lot has changed.

Artillery spamming is much more prevalent than before, on account of more artillery pieces being powerful. But tank balance in general is better, flame infantry isn't as dominant, and of course there's a lot of new units and better variety. Tomcat and MiG-31 circles of doom are extinct at least, so that's good...and Cat C spam decks are also dead. Mixed NATO decks are also all but extinct.

The biggest change you'll notice is that national decks now get an availability bonus instead of activation points bonuses like in ALB. While mixed decks, and coalitions (a new feature which combines several nations such as France + Germany) get reduced activation points.

I can't really provide you with a list, the changes both big and small have been with me so long that I often forget what change came in which game and when. Neither would providing you with an exhaustive list do much good...I'd advise you to just jump in and see what happens. It's generally still the same game, and played much the same way.

If you want to add me on Steam, you can locate me here http://steamcommunity.com/id/raventhefuhrer and I'm happy to answer questions and maybe play a few games.

I've been playing a bit and am really noticing the changes to tank balance. Unfortunately the increased power of artillery and HE is kind of overshadowing everything (I've had t72B's worth 95 points get taken out by a single HE bomb and cluster artillery takes some getting used to) I haven't really had the chance to test out infantry yet as most of my infantry gets killed off quickly. I seem to have lost more of my skills then I'd like to see. The fact that I can bring much less infantry in a standard deck also takes some getting used to (I used to play very infantry-heavy) The USSR SEAD recon chopper also makes me cry, still have to find a good way to counter it. I've also yet to fight a battle involving navies, interested to see how that plays out.

Well the easiest solution for the recon akula is simply NATO relying on radar AA as much. The American Chaparral is excellent for that.

As for navies, well don't expect too much. The broad consensus of serious players is that naval is broken, poorly designed, and most of all not fun so it's generally avoided.
