12. SS Panzerdivision's Commander

Postby aminzakhar » Mon 15 May 2017 12:12

Dear devs,

I am very confused and concerned here, I recently noticed that you guys changed the commander of the 12. SS. Why did you guys change the division's commander from Kurt Meyer nicknamed Panzer Meyer to Fritz Witt?? (The picture of the commander in the game is still Panzer Meyer's pic).
The game is called Steel Division Normnady 44, and it is about Battle of Normandy. The invasion of Normandy was from June 6th 1944 till mid July 1944. D-Day was on June 6th, and Fritz Witt died like a week later, So for the rest (majority) of the battle Kurt Meyer was the Commander of the 12. SS. Why did you guys decide to change him? Kurt Meyer was a legend (as a commander), and I hope this has nothing to do with controversial issues surrounding his character; I mean once you decide to do a historical game, you gotta be historically accurate. In the Invasion/Battle that took place in Normandy in 1944, Kurt Meyer was the commander of the 12. SS Panzerdivision Hitlerjugend. People that have read and know history (historians) know and absolutely agree that Kurt Meyer's role was crucial (much more important than Fritz Witt) in the battle that took place in Normandy in 1944.
(I do not live in Germany, and I do not have the German/Censored version. I hope you fix this for the people that have the international version, we care about history and historical facts.)

Thank you.

In accordance with the German USK (Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle)'s request, we are replacing Kurt Meyer's portrait & bio in the German version of the game with another officer: Fritz Witt, which was the nominal commander of the division at its arrival in Normandy but died a mere week after that.

DISCLAIMER:
We are aware of the discrepancy between Meyer's portrait & Witt's bio in the international version, it will be fixed.

Most likely because Kurt Meyer was a massive SS revisionist.

It is out of Eugens hands. They got asked by the USK to change it due to what orcbuster said.

Now, that being said, i would have liked it better if they had chose the path to inform rather than delete. I would have liked to see his role as a revisionist and his war crimes in his Bio. Maybe the later part was already in it, i can't remember.

All of the above. He was a convicted war criminal (shooting of POWs), 150% on party line Nazi and post-war Nazi demagogue. According to his son, the father "decorated" the living room wall with a portrait of Hitler (right next to Friedrich II.) right after his release from prison.

I have the international version, not the German/Censored Version. I seriously don't care what USK asked them to do, I don't live in Germany and History is very important to me; They better fix this for people that don't live in Germany and don't have the censored version.

I really don't care to be honest, I mean I am not rooting for the guy; I just care about history. I don't live in Germany and I don't have the censored version, they better fix this for us.

As stated by Madmat in the thread linked to you by Orcbuster, there is a bug in the international version which will be patched soon.

Awful lot of "only caring about history" when all you post about is missing SS runes and the option to lead a division as a war criminal being removed from an entertainment product.

First I just wanna say I do not want to turn this into a political discussion, I do not know why you are trying to make my reasonable discussion/statement into something weird; but your comment does need a reply from me.
I've paid for this game, so I do have a right to tell them my opinion respectfully. The things I have mentioned here are what you call Historical Accuracy, and Historical accuracy matters to me (especially because I study History) and to thousands of other people that play games that are based on history. I know you SJWs (Social Justice Warriors) don't know and don't care about facts, you guys just wanna find someone and insult them, which here you are indirectly calling me a SS sympathizer which is just pathetic based on what little info you have about me as a person.
