Ase2Ndfbin export plugin questions.

Postby Darkmil » Thu 11 May 2017 12:52

First when I open the M4A1 Sherman 3DS MAX model take some part of it and scale it up and try to export it (having only touched that) 3DS crashes intead of actually exporting the file.
the error message is the following :

Code: Select all

An error has occured and the application will now close.

I also have 3 error messages when I launch 3DS Max with both Eugen plugins installed.
1. Title :

Code: Select all

MAXScript Callback Script Handler Exception

Code: Select all

--Unknown property: uni1DirLight_Direction" in :DirectX_Shader

2. Title :

Code: Select all

MAXScript Callback Script Handler Exception

Code: Select all

--Unknown property: uniTwoSided" in :DirectX_Shader

3. Title :

Code: Select all

MAXScript Callback Script Handler Exception

Code: Select all

--Unknown property: uniTwoSided" in :DirectX_Shader

4. Title :

Code: Select all

MAXScript Callback Script Handler Exception

Code: Select all

--Unknown property: uni1DirLight_Direction" in :DirectX_Shader

And more importantly when exporting there are several boxes to tick. Which one should we actually tick ?

Hi,

Those errors you get about DirectX_Shader are probably caused by your viewport settings. By default it's set on Nitrous Direct3D 11, to use Eugen's scripts and tools you need to switch it to Nitrous Direct3D 9. You can change this by using Autodesk 3dsMax 2015/Change Graphics Mode :

Your crash on export is probably caused by the scaling. When you scale the unit, you have to do a ResetXform.

Take care to collapse all modifiers of 3dsMax on the mesh, otherwise an other crash could happen.

We will add all these informations into the documentations for the next update.

Finally during the export, the only box you need to check is the last one "Force Rigid Skining"

So as you may have seen I have succeeded in importing a 3D model in game. But for now I have several problems.

I have repicated the object hierarchy of the Sherman you provided so I don't get What I am doing wrong
here is the link to download the file if it can help you in anyway understanding my mistake

PS : I know all the wheels are no rigeed but I don't think the bug can come from here since it's located at the turrets level.

I might code it for blender. It will depend on how well I understand Enohka's code.

Hi,

So your issues are probably caused by some miss-aligned axis, to get rid of them you can apply a ResetXForm.
Take care before the reset XForm, you have to unlink you hierarchy and make your reset only on the geometries, not on the helpers. Then rebuild your hierarchy and reexport, it should solve your problem.
(Don't forget to collapse as many modifiers as possible).

Well, as we don't use Blender we won't make these plugins for Blender.
We currently haven't planned any upgrade to max 18, so our tools will stay on 15 for now.

Thank you Hulor. I hope I will be able to make it work.

@SYSTEM : Coding the plugin for blender isn't necessary, you can work in blender, and then export it in FBX format and import it in 3DS 2015. It works quite well, even if you have to do some corrections to the model in 3DS.
