SF, recon, or any other few with sepcial abilities would be dropped way ahead, and before the engagement, to secure locations before the battle. They would not be dropped in a 2 km wide no-man's-land between two opposing forces firing at each other. Nor would a para squad be dropped on top of a tank to destroy it at close quarter.
That's happening only in Hollywood.
Actually, it has been done sometimes before:
- Creta, in 1941.
- Arnhem, in 1944.
- Dien Bien Phu, 1954.
In all instance, it ended in disaster ...
So no: paradrops will remain, as in real life, a strategic option, not a tactical one.
