Re: The Truth about American Infantry

Why did you revive a six-years-dead thread to complain? And yes, American "light Rifleman" are fake. Pretty much the entire US infantry tab is wrong. Light Rifles didn't even exist until 1985 when the 10th Mountain came back. Even worse, Light Rifles don't have ATGMs. Not squad level. Not ...

Re: Wargame: Airland Dragon

I have to confess I messed up reading the infantry FMs. Also, light infantry do not exist until 1985 and the 10th Mountain showing up. In the mean time, Dragon teams at platoon level weren't a thing. M60 machine gun teams were. Because in the early-mid 80s every single squad , regular or mech, has a...

Re: Wargame: Airland Dragon

Basic infantry for CAT C motorized decks, instead of only Airborne. They would get trucks, humvees, and helicopter transports. A '75 light riflemen fills a gap and stands in for those wanting National Guard units. Keeping the current unit at '85 prevents competition with Airborne '90, adds a unit t...

Re: Wargame: Airland Dragon

Yeah, they turned into Mechanized Riflemen. The original Light Riflemen were turned into Airborne and my old Mountaineers turned into a 1985 Light Riflemen (10th Mountain). There wasn't a need for the basic Riflemen '75 until I specialized the Mech infantry. But what are the Light Rifleman for? The...

Re: Wargame: Airland Dragon

The download link isn't functioning for me. Really? Well I uploaded them to my Archive.com page. Also, check out this site for old FMs, it has among other thing a Redeye manual. I could split the weapons, but I modeled them in 100-round burst mode for balance and so I could give it the correct ammo...

Re: Wargame: Airland Dragon

So I very literally just found this . Its a penetration chart for the AGM-65's blast warhead from the AV-8B tactial manual. So you have about 200mm of penetration, after which 36kg of explosives go off. Anything without fancy composite armor is screwed. Also, it has PGU-20 API rounds with subcaliber...

Re: Wargame: Airland Dragon

Sorry, I didn't mean the radar; technically its the sighting system in radar mode, which provides automatic lead and elevation if the gunner maintains radar track for two seconds. My thinking was, as the system has only one radar mode, I doubt the system was calibrated for anything other than the i...

Re: Wargame: Airland Dragon

I am attempting to keep the CAT eras functional and reasonably balanced, hence some outdated equipment. I retained the VADS so CAT C has some sort of AAA. The CS represents a VADS that is equipped for ground support. PIVADS has the targeting radar and was the only close air defense until the 90s, s...

Re: Wargame: Airland Dragon

The manual only lists HEI and HEI-T as ammo, the API round was terrible. If you're using APDS you'd only use that, the ballistics are too different from HEI. I am wondering now if I should remove the aircraft range on the M163 CS. Even with radar, it would have been barely serviceable. I would do t...

Re: Wargame: Airland Dragon

I trust the Marines a lot more than Forecast. Even official documents should be critically analyzed. It's common for these kinds of documents to contain small errors, especially for technical details, when they are intended to be used for introductory classroom work. I will keep the 2000m figur...
