Re: The embarrassing state of the present Canadian Armed For

I think it's only by limiting your view of the Canadian military as a "Present-day Canada territorial defense force" that you can put it's usefulness into doubt. The role of a military is not limited in defending its home territory against present threats. I urge you to better document yo...

Re: The embarrassing state of the present Canadian Armed For

I'm going to post some concluding remarks now and then move on, since unfortunately I don't have unlimited time and can't/won't debate the topic further. I think this is a good time now that we have reached a stalemate which has amounted to us arguing about the future, which is we must bother agree ...

Re: The embarrassing state of the present Canadian Armed For

Either you ultimately need the US for defense or you don't. We don't because we have no viable enemies. The reason I say the US can and would defend us is two fold. 1. Even though I think it's absolutely true that Canada can maintain a lack of real enemies, some people are unconvinced and need a gu...

Re: The embarrassing state of the present Canadian Armed For

Do you actually think you can predict what threats will exist in 20 years ? No I can't, and I honestly think that this is your strongest argument. That being said, here is why I disagree. Canada's enemies and threats are not determined at random. We do have the ability to act in ways that is benefi...

Re: The embarrassing state of the present Canadian Armed For

Norad requires a military, interceptors and radar are needed Without it, kids can't send their postcard to santa claus every year nor track him NORAD's most important function, tracking Santa Claus. Ok, so maybe leave the intercepting to the US, and allow Canada to still maintain and operate Canadi...

Re: The embarrassing state of the present Canadian Armed For

You actually think NATO, NORAD, and the States wouldnt be pissed of Canada got rid of the military and wasnt able to fulfill all the commitments the government has made... oh wed be paying if we did. I don't know if they'd be upset. They might be. But would they be angry enough to cause an internat...

Re: The embarrassing state of the present Canadian Armed For

Demilitarization? While we are not in danger or anything of the sort that requires the most modern military, relying totally on USA does lower our sovereignty. There are many countries that have no military, thats true, but how small are they? Canada is the second biggest country, a sizable populati...

Re: The embarrassing state of the present Canadian Armed For

You would spend 2x the money changing what assets you needed over to other services, and companies, and government bodies. Also the US/NATO would make us pay for defense... a lot, we would probably be paying that 2% GPD premium NATO wants. Like I said in my original post, sell what we don't need. I...

Re: The embarrassing state of the present Canadian Armed For

You just posted a list of Countries that are some of the smallest in the world, and with minimal population sizes... which are mainly isolated as a population. (Oh and theyre worth pretty much nothing to most countries and locations that arent very useful as well) I am aware of what I posted. If yo...

Re: The embarrassing state of the present Canadian Armed For

Militaries shape foreign policy and help protect our nations claims. Just look at Canada's arctic situation. We technically own it, but the Russians sometimes fly Bears in the area and to my knowledge also have submarines in the area as well (feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken). Imagine losing...
