Re: MG-42 Range discrepancy

Now let's recap. HMG MG42 and MG34 can fire up to 3000 m and 3500 plunging gire (in game range 1500 m) So can other GPMGs. Nothing's stopping them since the bullet ballistics are comparable (even better velocity for 7.62mmR vs 8mm Mauser) and using indirect fire with machine-guns was a thing since ...

Re: MG-42 Range discrepancy

Once again, if the scope was what gave the range advantage, why is it unique to the MG-42? https://avatars.mds.yandex.net/get-zen_doc/1572663/pub_5c87698ba092da00b29ba8cc_5c876ff66a3b8100b34ee2ec/scale_2400 https://avatars.mds.yandex.net/get-zen_doc/100325/pub_5c87698ba092da00b29ba8cc_5c8770c1bf147...

Re: MG-42 Range discrepancy

Do you actually have some hard data to back the usage of Allied MGs in the same way with German MGs, meaning long range direct fire? Or is just a thing you want because you don't like the actual set up? For example, the crew of Maxim MG literally included a person responsible for rangefinding. In c...

Re: MG-42 Range discrepancy

Yet it didn't reach the performance of MG42. Define "didn't reach". The differences in performance are most probably marginal that they don't justify the difference in range. Actually it was insanely accurate when you didn't full auto. The standard firing of the MG42 wasn't fully auto, it...

Re: MG-42 Range discrepancy

see what I said up there. all MGs have bad accuracy at range, all were theoretically able to fire at 1500 m, the thing is that German MGs were able to send almost triple quantity of bullets. Yes but then with the high RoF the recoil would be great and readjusting the MG would be harder compared to ...

Re: MG-42 Range discrepancy

To add to this, a "heavy" 7.62mm bullet was specially developed in 1930 by USSR to fire at the distances over 1000m and for indirect fire. In the 1930s of the 20th century, a concept was developed in the armies of many countries of the world, including the Soviet Union, according to which ...

Re: MG-42 Range discrepancy

Is there a physical justification why MG42 should outrange its counterparts by a whole 500m apart from "Germans employed better tactics"? Not to mention that the high rate of fire at that range should result in low accuracy.

Re: MG-42 Range discrepancy

+1, there's no real reason why MG-42 should outrange its 7.62x54R counterparts really.
