Re: Finland's armed forces

As for small arms, main infantry AT weapon systems would be http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/55_S_55 for reservists and US M72 LAW on squad-level, and French APILAS for squad and platoon platoon-level for the better-equipped Jääkäri and mechanized Panssarijääkäri units.

Re: Deep Operations in Nordic terrain

Which sources do you use for the soviet side of things? Primarily a recent study in Finnish, written by researcher from Maanpuolustuskorkeakoulu or the National Defence University as it's better known in English. I can list his sources once I receive the book itself - I haven't red it for a while a...

Agreed - with the sidenote that there would naturally be contigency plans in re...

Re: Deep Operations in Nordic terrain

Hence, can you please specify why at all would USSR be interested in Sweden, provided it is more or less neutral? Provided it is neutral they'd have no quarrel with them - but it seems that Soviet strategic demands in southern Baltic would have forced their hand in the north. WP planners seemingly ...

Re: Deep Operations in Nordic terrain

And just to keep your entertained, here's are few more education/propaganda films from FDF. Ilmauhka - Threat from the Air http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EcN-e5aetB4 As the name implies, a film about hostile air threat, featuring a sigar-puffing enemy commander , and ways and means FDF seeks t...

Re: Deep Operations in Nordic terrain

Excellent posts, however why capture the Finland/Sweden if you have the north-east parts of Norway to expand your airdefense zone (as well as anti sub zone)? Or do you assume US boomers operating in the Baltic sea? As otherwise soviets have little to gain in term of anti sub capabilities by capturi...

Re: Scandinavian Terrain

As for Denmark, here's a historical operational map from Polish archives. Notice the invasion of Skåne in the eastern flank of Copenhagen.

Re: Deep Operations in Nordic terrain

Now then, time to start analyzing the conventional Cold War approaches to the predicted nature of war in the Nordic countries. I'll leave out the nukes - if you want to know more about them, see this document http://www.kkrva.se/wp-content/uploads/Artiklar/086/kkrvaht_6_2008_9.pdf - it refers to the...

Deep Operations in Nordic terrain

First of all, greetings everyone. After seeing the Scandinavian terrain-thread and the discussion there, I decided to make another thread to discuss and compare the doctrines both sides would be using in a scenario W:AB is going to portray. So, feel free to discuss and compare the utilization of the...
