Wargame ALB Replay Center launched!

Postby Buck Turgidson » Sat 29 Jun 2013 01:44

Well, here it is. I feel it's ready for lauch. Some thing still need addressing but I think the functionality is there.

So what's new?

Well, the upload procedure should be (or at least feel) easier than before. The files are bigger now since Eugen decided not to compress their replay files so unfortunately you'll have longer upload times - the bigger replay files can grow up to 10MB now in 10v10. But fear not, you'll have a progress bar showing the phase of your upload now ;) and on the server side the problem has been tackled by compressing the files and when you download a replay, it'll be zipped for faster download. You can also now upload a screenshot to accompany your replay - I figured this would be helpful especially with tournament games, having all in one place should hopefully make confirming the results easier.

Searching and filtering

Most of this was already in place in the escalation.eu site, although in a more primitive form. I went a bit further and I feel that the search is somewhat more intuitive and more easy to use now. You can search by player name (and get assisted by a suggestion dropdown box), by tag, by ranked and ELO range, plus you've got your normal filtering options (map, gamemode, etc).

Some little things

I added some little things for the convenience factor:

* Mouse over minimaps when you put your cursor on top of the map name in the replay listing[/*]
* Clicking on a tag or player name in the replay window starts an automatic search of games involving the player/tag
* Reporting replays; there will always be bad apples in the community. Report bad language and abuse with a single mouse click and I'll look into it. I'll either suspend or ban ToS violating accounts, depending on the severity.
* Editing of replays is easy, happens straight from the replay window
* Search URLs are saved in your URL bar; you can set up search settings, then copy & paste the link for others to see the same search & filtering settings
* Other stuff that I can't remember, it's 3 AM ;)

Anyway, there are still things on my todo-list but I'm happy enough with this to launch the site. I hope it's ready enough for you folks!

Very cool, thanks for your efforts. This should be added to the "screenshots, videos" sticky.

It's great, (and very user-friendly) but for some reason when I'm trying to upload my replay it says "Error submitting the replay: unauthorized."

Is there a certain waiting period before I can upload?

Ok, had a little bug there - had been only testing as an admin lately so I never spotted the permissions bug. Should be fixed now.

YES YES YES, thanks so much, should make it much easier to find good replays, hopefully there is some kind of voting system to rate replays as well.
