I can tell you, if I was in charge of creating that balancing system, I would been lazy have made the assumption that all planes are balanced if they are equally used and simply proceeded to look at the ratio between number of missions played of a plane vs number of players with the plane unlocked and adjust accordingly.

It is a strategy relying on that the flavour of the month (only flies the temporarily 'best' plane) crowd outnumbers people who flies planes for other reasons.

FWIW, there was a devblog a while ago saying they're going to replace the BR system with something a lot more straight forward: a simple list of what planes/tanks a certain vehicle is allowed to face.

That wont actually be worth anything before they figure out what should face what and if they do that, they might as well keep the BR system but with new numbers.

Player based BR is doomed to fail.
Famous planes will get lower BR and then bad players will play it and reduce the stats dropping the BR even more.
Planes with higher BR will be only played by excellent players giving them a much higher BR.

They will be confronted with bias accusations as long as they screw up their shit like they do atm.

The 7,5 cm Cannon nerf for the Germans is horrendous, if i need 6 grenades with my Panther to kill an ordinary T 34 because i have to kill every single crew member with one round then there is something completely broken. Also the accuracy is now beyond everything imaginable, the Panther Gun, one of the most accurate guns of WW2 has problems to hit something on 1km due spread.
Same thing for the Pz III line, T 34s/T50 runs amok around BR 2.0 -> Gajin implements the PzIII J-> Pz III kills T34s/T 50s -> Pz III gets uptiered to Br 3.7 like the other two Pz III -> T 34s/T50s run on rampage again.

I dont trust the Br calculating system because if they would use it, the early T 34s and the T 50 would be now on Br 5000 but they only get downtiered.
If on look at the events with historical MM you see the whole axis team is always one tier above the enemys tiers, the germans are shamelessly overtiered and the Japanese even more so.

Sad, because the game is fun but this is what you get as long as you only listen to your russian community and the international community is only there to fill out bug reports.....

It's still preferable to the BR system because a straight list of what planes you'll fight is easier to understand than having to remember the names of planes anyway, and then what their BR is and how big the BR spread is and the mysterious mechanics of lowing your BR with careful plane selection.

I was Panzer IIIM once, spotted a T-50 mid range, hit it with 4 AP rounds and did nothing, hit with 2 APCR rounds at short range, I'm dead after getting hit 3 times.

Realistically the 5 cm gun was ineffective against T-34's and KV-1's, but a T-50? I'd say the devs are pretty biased with their overrated sloped armor excuse.

With Panzer vs T-34/KV-1s I've found the only spots you can reliably do bad things to either is the gun tube, or the driver's hatch. Anywhere else, even the flank or the rear is much "eh?"
