New norwegian CV90s

From my experience all the norwegian cv90s in afghanistan have been of this variant. And there haven't been that many of them down there.

Also, all CV9030Ns have applique armor

I am referring to these vehicles with extra armor on hull and turret which have been referred to as CV9030NF1.

I've never seen anything stating that the CV9030NF1 had any sort of applique armor besides added mine protection and the already present MEXAS. Neither have I seen any videos of the one in your image used by norwegian forces in afghanistan. And they are all supposed to be F1 variants. The vehicle in your image also lack any sort of identifcation.

According to the image description from Defense Industry Daily that is a Norwegian CV9030 in Afghanistan but I'll try to find some more information. Unfortunately I did not take the opportunity to save some past photos I've seen that are no longer available. However there are some references to it.



Page 9 of this BAE brochure references Norwegian CV90s field tested with new rubber tracks, uses the same photo.

I'd love to find more info about it but it's all very scarce. Mainly just hard-to-verify references to somewhere between 10 and 20 CV9030Ns upgraded like such.

Massive failure, system does not work as advertised.

IIRC the issues were: Weight, gun stability, no MRSI capability, lacks a functioning reload vehicle.

So we're doing shelfware instead.

Norways official defense magazine (no digital link) cites the following reasons for the cancellation of Archer: They say they don't want to provide very specific details but here's the gist of it.

Gun instability. Gun is not stable during firing due to the platform and this results in inaccuracy.while it could fire 3 shots in 9 seconds it could not do so with any sustained accuracy.

Second is weight. Its too heavy for the wheeled chassis, especially for deep snow. It also has problems crossing many norwegian Bridges removing many advanages of the wheeled system.

Third: delivery of the critical ammo resupply system has broken down completely as the company responsible for delivering and developing it has gone bankrupt.

Suffice to say the norwegian military has lost complete faith in the system and that Sweden has lost an enormous amount of competence in the artillery theory field since bofors was aquired by BAE
