Holu crap thats 1 hell of a commitment to setting it all up, its a shame no museum wants to take his collection though.

BTW for those interested, games workshop has said the specialist games like blood bowl, battlefleet gothic, necro are all coming back as of next year.

I wonder if GW's move to recreate BFG was in any way prompted by the Dropfleet Commander kickstarter. (Whose models look fantastic...)

I've been interested in getting into 6mm Cold War, what are the best rules / model sources?

Alot of people are suspecting this might have been a big kick into their side of "oh we dun goofed quick we might make some money here", but given that dropfleet has exceptional models, a ruleset that by counts works better than BFG and the guy behind the original BFG ruleset helping develop the rules to not make any mistakes for balance/sillyness GW has alot to prove now, they were told by the fanbase "we want it" back when BFG the pc game was announced, they now are basically going to have to fight another company whom have shown exceptional care and attention to balance and its fanbase, 2 things GW doesnt do very well.

Hopefully GW pull it out the bag and we get 2 great games in that genre, but who knows.

Dropfleet models look amazing, I'm excited by the more 'modern' ruleset as well.

The business question is hard, as it is unlikely that GW would make a decision like this so shortly, yet the organizational moves plus "bring back all the games" suggests a combination of long-term planning and reactionary movements. There is more practical problems, Dropfleet is scheduled to release in 6 months. It would be a miracle for GW to get BFG released within a year at any reasonable quality level. In light of the competition (Star Wars Armada, Halo Fleet Battles, Dropfleet) I think that Epic 40K is a safer pursuit for GW.

Ironically, if GW does bring back BFG, we will have gone from zero large scale ship battles to three (four if you include Star Wars Armada) within 3-4 years.

Cold War Commander as rules.
For modes, you have GHQ, CinC for high quality models, and Heroics&Ros, Scotia for cheap models (be careful those are in 1/300 while GHQ's are in 1/285). You can also find some specific (and ultra-expensive) things such as full battery of SAM or T-14 Armata on Shapeways.

I play Advanced Squad Leader when I can - sadly there's not been much of it lately, since I don't actually own any copies myself.

Odd that all the M113 variants have 3 front armor, and all the BMP variants have 2 front armor. Seems like it should be the other way around? But they all do look very good!
