Some new footage:
Slava class cruiser Moscow is currently conducting AD exercises of the coast of Syria, the task is to train for air defense of Latakia airbase from the sea.
Do I spy with my little eye, some Damocles pods being used on some of those videos?

Kek, the footage is from this simulator called "Lock On" and the soundtrack is taken from another aloha snackbar video, this dude shows it here: https://youtu.be/wLpSIP2vkFg?t=34s

I dont think that we have Damocles (or related Sapsan) pods in service, but it is possible that we use some surplus Sapsans from India related contracts with Su30SMs (which are a development of export Su30MKI).
The only pod we are officially getting into the service is T220 for the MiG29K/KUB (also marketed for Su35S).
Thus most likely candidates are the internal targeting systems and UAVs.

Lessons learned:
- observer aircraft should have it's crosshairs on target.
- the video should say what was the target and which weapon was used.

Do the Russians have something like ground troops there to defend their planes? Or is the Syrian army in charge of this?

I have mentioned this before, we have a reinforced battalion tactical group of Naval infantry, other units may come in on rotation (notably 7th Air Assault division).

Haven't seen this, thanks.
But they only secure the airfield or do they take some other action as well?

Putin said they won't. He said there would be air strikes with no land warfare.
I hope very much it's not a kind of deception.
