Modern warfare is when a $1B ship launches $1M missile to destroy a $10 tent.

Surely, it looks pretty impressive - many people wondered why there are ships with 1500 km-ranged missiles in 300 km wide Caspian Sea. The question is - is it costeffective?

Clearly to launch missiles at European and ME targets. And those missiles do not fall under any international obligations of Russia and thus in theory could have any range and carry any payload.

Also, note Tu160 in the video.

US and other Western fleets are in the Med. Launching from Caspian allows them to do so unobserved and capturing the missile's characteristics eg speed RCS

I wonder what thery could be hitting though; US should have been hitting IS pretty in that part and so far there is no footage of the targets

Launchers were in Caspian Sea, due to the weapon range they could reach Syria from there.

Launches were conducted from a new direction because militants would sometimes, especially the leadership, disperse and/or intermix with civilians when receiving reports or take offs from Latakia. Who provides those reports is another matter, the one we are looking into.
And while we couldnt do much about HUMINT, well not yet anyway, we could do plenty about classical airborne ISR assets, that is what the jammers are there for.

Bigger question. Was a loss of two tank companies for Assad worth the limited gains of today ? The battle turned into a pure bloodbath and he doesn't have that much to spare at all.

Since the Russians began operating in Syrian airspace, U.S. pilots have been under orders to change their flight path if there is a Russian plane within 20 nautical miles, according to the offici

the guest on the video brings up a point at the end as to why the Turkey airspace thing is so big in the news, there's a small but scary chance a NATO member will shoot at a Russian aircraft.
