not that it wouldnt be useful elsewhere, but having what is essentially indirect fire antitank munitions on a fast, armored platform sounds like a godsend when you're trying to push through tactically cluttered environments in the first week of a korean war.

And the combination of advanced C4I system embeded on K2 and the KSTAM will enable the hunter-killer role play for each tank, engaging enemy armor without revealing spoter/shooter's position.

It seems like a good, solid tank.

Does South Korean law allow military exports?

With the Whole Suspension control plus the elevation of the gun, this will be nasty in mountainous warfare, only other tank i could see competing in that area is the Type 10

Seeing that both Koreas are rather mountainous and cluttered...

She looks like a good tank.

Re: Exports

As far as I know there's no restrictions on Korean military exports. I think there was almost foreign users for the K1 back in the day too. They just occupy that weird niche where their stuff is too expensive to be appealing to some of the third world, while people shopping for western style gear traditionally can get some sort of deal out of the US/UK/France etc that makes buying from one of those sources attractive.
Do I look like a reasonable man to you, or a peppermint nightmare?

Japan just changed their laws to allow exports, and I'm interested to see if anyone ever bites on the Type 10.

active radar, and firing arc to hit top armor...

Well, we should not forget that this kind of smart munitions came up as a cheaper alternative to expensive missile system. ;)

They're actually about as expensive.

The difference is that KSTAM is standoff, and missiles and tank shells are not. You can kill tanks without being shot at, saving the tank and the crew from potential damage. The US Army has naturally been very interested in such weapons for decades, and Korea likely got the idea/was inspired from them.

Same reason ROK is putting howitzers on 5-ton trucks as opposed to towed guns: to conserve manpower.

Hence my comment on how well they designed the tank for such operations ;)
