Instead of writing a wall of text which im too lazy to do, i just want general opinions likes or concerns.
Personally, i would find dogfighting with mainly guns, the (probably) more realistic range implementation and how towed at guns would be handled (if at all) the more intereting points

Re: WW2 in wargame
Often discussed and pretty polarizing.
Fact is:
A WWII setting offers a lot of advantages, especially from a balance standpoint and from a standpoint of uniqueness of the Nations (not to mention that every nation could be relatively easy a major one, as long as things as B17&Co are not included)
Fact is also:
50% of the people think: "Ohh, please not another WWII game". Which is quite understandable.
And here ends the discussion usually
/thread.

Re: WW2 in wargame
I am actually fine with it
While WW2 might be over played
a wargame on it will be great

I don't feel like Iriszoom (That's the engine name right?) would work too well in a WW2 setting.

Eugen would have to ditch a ridiculous number of models they've made, so I don't see it happening.

In regards to dogfights with guns, there may be some interesting (although headache-inducing) micro involved.
It'd definitely improve plane micro skills!

Most of which are just re-skins or different variations of each other.
Re: WW2 in wargame
At this point, it's only a hypothetical discussion, no need to refrainyour ideas based on what Eugen would/wouldn't do.
WW2 may be over used, but I think the last large scale RTS with on that period was a mod for SupCom ; so it's not really a problem in my opinion.
However, I think a game set in the '50s would allow to explore other conflicts, while keeping most WW2 units and the general "feel" (only a handful of AA/AT missiles, and very innacurate to boot).
Why is it so ?
Ruse used Iriszoom, and it managed WW2 quite correctly.

Really not interested in a WW2 game, unless it's the Pacific/china/burma
