Also after reading through some of the, dont buy used British or French Vessels... many fires to be had.

The US rented the Gotland for practice in the mid noughts, I believe. From what I have gathered over the years, the Swedish submarine was more than effective against the US surface ships.

Really, if you're a NATO sub and you can't sink a US carrier on exercise, then that's a pretty poor showing.

Yeah, besides their extremely stealthy hydrogen fuel-cells. Afaik the most stealthy submarines known today.
Additionally, two are being planned to enter service this year.

Don't the environmentalists get all angry when active sonar is blazing away? Passive sonar is very important I know, but in a more serious situation it would be quite harder for a NATO (or other) submarine to pull such a stunt.

AFAIK many of these events aren't really official things. Seems to be some weird Yuropean ritual that they have to simulate sinking one of our carriers. Maybe the Brits will lose interest in this oddity once they get their own carrier again.

The idea that this was an official exercise and yet half of a carrier battle group would manage to be "sunk" after the carrier was seems a bit odd.
When in doubt blame UGBEAR.

Not so sure: your budget cuts are much more leathal to your armed forces than any foreign army or navy could.
Soon, there won't be anything British to sink ... :(

France plans to reduce the number of warfighting escorts (DD/FF) to 15. So we have 4 more of them.

France has 1 old CVN hasn't started building replacements. We have 1 CV commissioned. 1CVF in the water being outfitted. 1 mid build.

France has 6 SSNs. We have 7.

France has 3 large Amphibious ships UK has 4. With 3 Auxiliaries.

I'd say the cuts to your Fremm project. To your Carrier replacement. To your Amphibious building plan. To your SSN replacements. To your Horizon project are much much more damning.

The RN has gone through all its cuts. Hell we came out of last year with 3 new OPVs being built for us. The 2 CVs have been agreed to be kept. The Type 26 long lead items are ordered and 8 are coming in first ASW batch with 5 GP after for a 1:1 replacement. We have the new tide class. The RN shouldered some pretty brutal cuts but with Russian activity in the NA. Crimea, Syria and Libya as well as tension in the gulf things are looking good for the RN... if not the army.

Still the most potent Navy in Europe. Still in the top 7 in the world. Not bad for a tiny Island.

If the Charles de Gaulle is "old".. Then what would you say about the Nimitz carriers ? Seven out of ten of those are older than the R91 CDG.

One thing French Navy the British does not have is technological independence. Whereas France relies on French designed and controlled strategical and tactical assets, we cannot say the same on UK. I wouldn't feel safe having to rely on a foreign, control freak country to have a decent nuclear deterrence or naval aviation.

BTW, future British carriers will be STOBAR, right ? With F-35B ?

Nimitz is getting replaced isnt it at the moment?

Went back to STOVL IIRC due to STOBAR involving large amounts of money no?

As for independant, I thought it was decided back in 2006 that the UK would be operationally detatched from the US in its upgrading and maintaining of the F-35s? Though personally i still think its a shame we left developing our own aircraft in the 80s to join the Germans and lost alot of chance in that, also think we should just get rid of our nukes personally or drop them significantly.

2. We will have 2 carriers by roughly 2020.
A brilliant plan from the dirtiest euro-hippie: get US players to pay me for a game that I then show them how much their military sucks so I can feel better about being a communist.

Yes will we have anything to fly off them? Already waiting for the news report saying that the carriers will be changed to STOBAR because the f35b fell through

That didn't even come close to answering my questions.

Think you have what it takes to enlist into the military? You sure about that?
