The way she puts it seems to be an attack, saying how to be the republican lead you must basically cow to the Israelis.

Doesn't that have more to do with big Jewish American donors like Sheldon Adelson and not Israel in particular and the Bible Belt support for Israel which is more clingy than even more extreme Israeli politcians?

And are you not blinded by your own left wingedness if you really believe that statement of yours adequately sums up Republican philosophy on the founding of this nation?

Ask any of the republican leadership other than Trump and they will tell you "christian values/christian nation" because any other answer will crush them in the polling, only Trump would be able to answer differently(and did iirc!) because people love him for being "his own man", even then he suffered for his comments against it iirc.

Statements about Christian values and being a Christian nation are more-or-less accurate depending on what an individual thinks those terms mean. I do not equate the idea with a Christian/Muslim/Jewish/whatever nation with a theocratic government or something like Sharia Law though some do.

Unless I've missed something no serious candidate has gone off the reservation and stated that Jesus Christ flew into Valley Forge on a giant eagle and told George Washington that he would found a new nation built right off the pages of the Bible.
When in doubt blame UGBEAR.

That also applies to the US being an empire, or fascist, or socialist, or communist, or...

I see that the irony of calling someone on the left a "messiah" escapes those on the right who use it. They even try to act like they know better when it goes right over their heads.

Color me surprised.

No, they just try to make it so gays are illegal again (like in a theocratic government because the bible says they be ew, easily looked up), try to make abortion illegal because again the bible, try to make it so then x, y z are illegal based off the bible and so on even if the constitution holds it as a protected right.

They are theocratic in all but name in many aspects, when they say "i want x because bible" and ignore their constitution or other peoples religious beliefs but only their own is valid that is theocratic belief, take it from somebody whom still has a partially theocratic government

(i mean seriously, these guys are like the bishops/other religious leaders in my government more often then not, hell, my bishops are LESS bible thumping sometimes lol)

The Bible thumping bit is probably going to be Trump's big weakness. I have the feeling that Carson's surge was him directly calling out the evangelical crowd and basically saying that "I'm more Jesus than he is." Support Trump over me? You obviously don't care about Jesus.

Evangelicals are a dying breed, but they still have more than enough political clout to put massive influence into the GOP. Trump may well have to up his "Jesus game" if he wants to keep up.

But can he up his "Jesus game"? Analogues are being drawn between Guliani and Trump about how Guliani was wiped out once the primaries campaigning started in earnest and they have similar marriage record, record on abortion and record on evangelical relevant policies prior to making a bit for the nominee.

Hence this early Trump making a splash has never been anything anyone took seriously when it comes to analysts. Pundits maybe, but they have to fill up a full day of news and prompter fodder.
