The New Leopard tank is here

Postby Flieger » Sun 30 Aug 2015 20:33

... well, not exactly, it is however the new technology demonstrator from KMW:

Looks ugly, but has the Advanced Modular Armour Protection and the Deisenroth Active Defence System , a longer gun that shall be replaced by a 130mm cannon later, and a lot more.

Why 130mm? Also - translation of the article would be nice to have.

Think you have what it takes to enlist into the military? You sure about that?

Scope in the frontal armour is not the best idea you could have. Even if it is backed by armour array, as it creates a weakened zone.

That said - it can be a good modification of aging Leopards, which would need upgrade somewhere in the future.

I was surprised by that as well. While it does look badass, as you said, it does create a weak point.

Why doesn't the UK show any challenger upgrades?

It is based on Leopard 2A4, later variants have the main sight moved to the roof.
I guess it's an upgrade proposal, there is still a lot of 2A4s around the world and apparently the German army wants to put into service some of those left in their stocks.

Now thats a proper tank.

Norway is looking to refurbish the old 2A4s, might be interesting. we want to keep the shorter L44 gun though. Guess we'll have to see ho long that 130mm is.
