Fix the obvious weakened zone and she's a real beauty :)

Well, it is a technology demonstrator, not a production model. The Bundeswehr e.g. has not yet publicly stated what of that tech they want to buy. I am a little surprised about that weak spot myself, but I will wait with my judgements until I see the finished model, or at least get some additional info.

Regarding the 130mm cannon... it seems they are not yet decided. Another news article said the new cannon will have a larger caliber, 130mm or perhaps 140mm.
130mm may sound weird at first, but I remember that the shells of the 80ies 140mm cannon prototype were quite heavy. Since the cannon is loaded manually, 130mm might be a compromise. But I am really just speculating here.
A larger makes sense anyway, because even the longer barrel and the new, programmable ammo may not be enough in the long run.

More like the singaporean version

But yes, it looks like that because it's a 2A4 upgrade.rather than a 2A5/6 upgrade.

Wait...
Is this an upgrade for the Leopard 2 now?
Or does it carry technology the Leopard 3 is going to receive?
Because IIRC the Leopard 3 was told to be a completely new tank.

It's a leopard 2A4 Upgrade.

Or rather a tecnology demonstrator built on a 2A4

I wonder if they'll bug us about the Thumper, since we used to be working on a 140mm gun.

Think you have what it takes to enlist into the military? You sure about that?

Germans did it first, hell it was a long planned upgrade.

IIRC the fjrst major leopard 2 upgrade past the A4 was supposed to be the L/55 then the addon armor of the 2A5, then the final 140mm gun upgrade.

Its the reason why the leo 2 has such a big gun mantlet.

It's a leopard 2A4 Upgrade.

Yea, rewatched the pics, just saw it.

Headline was a bit irritating("The new Leopard[...]"). :)

It's really a bit irritating that they'll use a 130mm gun. Flieger has a point about the fact that the rounds are heavy but is there already a 130mm? Or would it have to be developed first? Because a 140mm gun is already there.
What about new ammo? I think a DU-round for a 130mm or 140mm gun would be quite deadly(assuming the Bundeswehr is going to introduce those[which wouldn't be impossible with a new threat scenario i.e. CW 2.0] OR the US Army e.g. is going to use a 130mm/140mm gun as well)
And the 140mm canon has been tested on the Leopard 2A4 already.

Image

Maybe we'll know more in some years.

I'm a bit disappointed with the introduction being 2018. With the increase in defense spending this should be reached a bit earlier.
Is there btw any info on a new US MBT?

All in all is it nice but I think the Leopard 2 has reched its zenith.

Ok, I admit it, I only say so because I want to see the Leopard 3.
