East, Southeast and South Asia News

Postby Admiral Piett » Sat 23 Jul 2016 19:46

I'm just starting this thread for news regarding anything in East, Southeast and South Asia (From Japan, to China, to North Korea, to India, to the Philippines) that doesn't quite fit in "Cold War 3." The old thread had a silly, inflammatory title and was entirely China-based.

To start things off, there is currently major flooding in Hebei and Henan. At least 150 people have been killed so far.

Also, a North Korean airliner had to make an emergency landing due to an in-flight fire:

I don't think they will ever find it unfortunately.

This is what I find most depressing about terrorism in Asia. It's rare and with the hard to acquire weapons it's usually either in a packed place or somewhere where the victims could offer little resistance. The elementary school attacks also spring to mind with their appauling nature.

Not news per-se but...

President Rodrigo Duterte, he's a right bag-o-bolts isn't he?

I don't know too much about him, but he is basically Filipino Donald Trump from what I have heard.

And the Philippine version of judge Dread, his election program involves a big anti crime offensive i.e. shoot'em up good.

Well, this will be interesting. The Japanese Emperor does not speak live ever. This will be the first time.
