Nah, just the newest historiography. Chiang's reputation has changed quite dramatically over the last few years when people started actually looking at what he did instead of reading what Stilwell (who was an unrepentant incompetent) said he did. One of the first sentences in the book mentions Chiang was a brutal dictator, which he was. Ain't no white-washing or anything like that. At least that I have see thus far. I will certainly report back if the book goes off the rails for whatever reason.
