Where Eagles Dare (1968) turns out to be another gem.
Has it all. Special forces. Airborne insertion. Alpine scenery. Austrian castle full of nazis. Icepicks, ropeway, a firetruck... and Clint Eastwood. Did I mention the helicopter?
The opening scene + score is very nice.
You'd never believe how much dynamite special forces can cram into one paratrooper backpack. Likewise new MP-40s seem to come out every half an hour. Wish I could have those packing skills while travelling! I had little problem believing it when Clint takes on 40+ nazis in a tight corridor, but supposedly cool-headed special forces opening fire needlessly during what is not even a normal hollywood chase
The scariest moments are when they are jumping on surfaces with (near-zero) snow, those can be very slippery - don't try this at home, kids!
