Retreating Infantry, auto retreat when under fire (not rout)

Postby Orange » Mon 10 Sep 2012 08:15

I keep seeing this happen. My infantry is in position standing still, something starts firing at it making them run away as if they would rout but still under control. This is fairly new, I can't recall this happening before the atgm patch for sure and maybe also wasn't present after atgm patch before the recent ones happened. It is fairly annoying since my infantry is supposed to fight and fire their secondaries and instead moves.

Anyone else having this?

Infantry do it most frequently, but generally if a unit cannot return fire against the enemy shooting at them, they will automatically attempt to retreat.

Used to be real crappy when using Chieftans in the heavy tank meta; you could have something else shooting at heavies while the Chieftans did the work elsewhere, but if the enemy heavy tanks targeted the Chieftans, they would fall back.

It's incredibly annoying when this happens while your infantry are fortified inside buildings. I can understand this behaviour when units are Panicked, Stunned, or (obviously) Routing, but Calm Infantry running out into the open to get blasted by cannons is really annoying.

Always happened, and for any unit.

Really unnerving when the guys are in cover.

Or when a line must be held, etc.

I suggest this gets done away with in the next patch, because it kills more units than it saves.

I can confirm it at least happens to infantry in buildings. I can't count the number of times I've had some infantry in buildings, haven't touched them in ages and suddenly i see them running off in a random direction to die.

For all those who think auto popping flares/smoke/ moving in preset formations is a good idea: this thread represents exactly the sort of frustration that comes from such features.

Yeah, one of the most annoying things. This has always happened though.
