NATO - Leopard vs Abrams

Postby ZombieRommel » Thu 23 Feb 2012 12:20

How would you define the roles of the Leopard and Abrams? I know that the Abrams has possibly the best stabilizer in the game, meaning it's great to use while mobile, but where does the Leopard fit in? Like, why would I choose a Leopard over an Abrams, aside from cost?

And just for the record, I mean all variants of the Leopard and Abrams. What do you think their roles were as designed by Eugen, and does this reflect their real life design?

considering that moving doesnt make you harder to hit, i dont see much point in abrams

Eh? Strong armour and a stabaliser means that backing off lightly gunned enemies works really rather well. If they try and chase they never get in range.

I prefer the Abrams. Side armour is suprisingly useful. I might consider the Leopard 2 series if the price was dropped 5-10, but right now it's all about the Abrams.

The point of stabilizer is that you can keep moving in and out of range and fire, constantly. This is the key to NATO armor: keep it in reserve, push it forward when good targets present themselves and pull back when things get too hot. Leo 2 doesn't really need to stop either but it misses a little more. The main difference is the need of refueling, since M1 is a gas-guzzling monster that can't pull out of the driveway without needing more fuel. M1 also happens to have the best cannon in the whole game.

In theory the two are interchangeable. In practice Leos can drive longer with the same amount of resupply and M1 are more at home when the action is relatively static.

I think that that more powerful stabilizer + higher side armor + 3rd weapon just makes the Abrams a more versitile, useful tank.

T-55AMV (and pretty much every other medium to high tier soviet tank) would like a word with you.
