Pilots and prisoners

Postby Romiros » Fri 16 Sep 2011 06:58

Act of war had a really interesting system, when pilot of unit can survive and be captured by enemy or saved by you forces. Have Ruse something like that? If our units have experience it will be great to have opportunity to save the crew or, for enemy, kill\captured them for extra points.

second, about forum, little offtopic
can you make option "don't show forum" in "view new post"? Obvious that English speakers don't interesting about new posts in german or french forums, and germans don't interest in spanish. And I want tag [spoiler]. Thx.

I haven't played Act of War but that sounded interesting, it wasn't in RUSE and I will be very happy if you could in EE

You have a battle - the enemy player shoots it down then they get a optional objective to them

This would make the game very deep, I like this idea.

I was a big Act of War fan and i liked this prisoner system really much. you had to upgrade your soldiers so they can capture prisoners. I had some really nice battles where all resources have been used and both sides only get money from the prisoners (you get money every few seconds from them). you had to protect your jails very well because it was the most important building in such an end-phase of the game.

Man, good old gaming times. Played this game 3 years and it wasn't getting boring

I have taken the trouble to rescue pilots in C&C generals with a chinook.

Maybe a moral boost can be awarded for such a feat. A moral decrease can be applied if the rescue is a failure.(this would add tension to the mission). So the player decides if he's willing to take the risk.

If the rescue helo makes it back with a downed pilot, recon info on units in area can be rewarded, the helo gets a rank increase and the rescued pilot gets hero status.

Downed pilots should be stealthy like the C&C generals snipers. You would have to get right next to them to see them. The pilot could have the option to surrender instead of getting caught and perhaps killed. If the pilot surrenders, he is sent to a prison, (can not be killed immediately , but may be killed after a set time in prison for a cash bonus). This then would set up a prison rescue mission by special forces in order to rescue the pilot before the time runs out. The controling player of the pilot would be expecting a rescue though...

I realise that this is may not be inline with the scope or focus of the game though. But it would add drama and individuality to the insanity of massed combat.

As you self alredy said this really off the line of the game, well at least for the multiplayer I guess.
What the campain will bring, that is a totally different story.

If they do have downed pilots, you should only see a zone where your pilot is. Not exactly where he is like in C&C Generals. Once your rescue helo gets closer, then you can spot your pilot. This way, your rescue helo may not take the most efficient route to the pilot but may have to circle, ... to find him. Maybe you can even have the downed pilot deploy smoke. Would be cool to see billowing smoke, then as your rescue helo gets closer, you see a pilot waving his hands.

So if the player wants to surrender his pilot before he is discovered, he will do this only knowing that an enemy is near the zone where his pilot may be. The surrender may not have been necessary.

An exception to not seeing where your pilot exactly is could be with a high ranked pilot. This pilot could be visible and controlable to the player so that you may try to get him back, on foot to a pick up point or back to freindly lines. Now if the pilot is injured, like a broken leg, then he has to wait for a rescue.

One issue I see with that is the fact that there are no buildings. So, where would we put these prisoners? Sounds slightly complicated too add this late in the games development also.
