the unit discussion thread

Postby ikalugin » Mon 7 Nov 2011 21:29

well as tac error suggested we might as well transfere to here.

i do wonder how "experimental" units will go in the end, especially with seen mbt70, as well as suspected obj 477.

also there is a question how will the infantry be made - will it come with its organic transport or will you need to procure it? what about infantry weapons, how will those change with the game passing (with tanks it is easier i think, as within same infantry section you would expect several different weapons).
will infantry have organic anti tank weapons, as well as mg? (as it was made in world in conflict), will they have manpads?
lastly but not least - what about towed artilery, will it be kept?

I just realised something as I saw todays oicture of the day....
I may lack of knowledge of the cold wars T-models. But I know every single one from the WW2 era.
T-26, T-34, T-43, T43/85. They are maybe not part of the T-series but: KV-1, KV-3, IS-1 to 6.... Maybe when I play wargame I get familiar with the coldwar T-models too 8-)

t54-t55-t62-t64/t72-t64a/t72a/t80-t64b/t72b/t80b/modernasation for the t62/t55-t80ud/t80u/t72b(later blocks with kontakt 5)

Hey devs (If present), will you be able to equip combat helos with Unguided rockets such as the CRV7 and Hydra and Soviet equivalents, with Fletchet airburst warheads?

IIRC, the AH64 does indeed have hydras. You can even see it in the new trailer.

I'm under the assumption that they are Hydra, HEDP rockets.

Infantry automatically comes with a transport. It can be a mere "armored truck" with barely an MG, like the VAB, Fuchs, BTR-60, ... to the mighty Marder, Bradley or BMP-3. And for some units, transport helicopters like Huey, Puma, Lynx, Mi-8, ...

Most infantry squads have an AT weapons, which depends on the unit: US Riflemen will have a LAW while the French Chasseurs have an LRAC, and the Warsaw Pact troops various types of RPGs. Each type of unit have its own armement, so you should always find what you want ... German Panzergrenadier even have an organic ATGM, the Milan!
Some Special Forces squads have more "exotic" weapons, like MANPADS or Soviet RPO.
Then you've got the specialists teams, either AT or AA, which are smaller squads designed mainly to counter a special kind of target. AT teams are designed to counter armored units, that's why they are armed with ATGMs, from the US Dragon to the dreadful Soviet Konkurs. AA teams are designed to take down air units, so are armed with MANPADs, ranging from the British Blowpipe to the Soviet Igla or US Stinger.

No. This is mechanized warfare: artillery and support units are self-propeled ...

You'll have FFAR, Hydra and Soviet equivalent (... and the French SNEB 68mm, please don't forget us ;) ) mounted on choppers, indeed.
If you like that kind of weapons, I'm sure you'll love the US gunships family, with the Hog, Heavy Hog, ... variants and their massive rocket pods. To be used while listening the "Ride of the Walkyries".

Because it's a very good ATGM, and you don't want to be on the receiving side ...
May be I've misused the word "dreadful": I meant "frightening" (for the opponent).
