A new strategy I use call it mongol rider (dana moving arty)

Postby Orange » Sun 15 Apr 2012 08:41

As you all may know, the biggest weakpoint of arty is that it sits at one point with its fobs and waits to get rushed with inf or dies any moment an enemy gets near (if they don't rout from the fire which is more likely)

Pact got a few really awesome fast units. Its the better Ural, the strop 2 and the dana. I like to deploy 8-12 dana, 4 strop 2 and a huge load of those ural and one fast recon that uaz. What you do then is arty fire a few volleys and then move to another location. since the dana got 80kmh and the strop2 100kmh you will be fast enough to flee from whatever they throw at you and then fire and flee just like mongols bow horsemen did. You do need a big map and the less wood and the more bridges the better. You also need 2 teammates who do the dirty work with tanks and stuff to keep the enemy busy, you are just the support which can't hold lines and you will maybe not get as many points as them.

The advantage is that you can kill an static enemy arty fob base easily, make enemy tanks rout and let them get finished by teammates, provide arty support accross the whole map from very near without fear of getting ambushed.

I used the tactic a few times succesfully already and it pretty much is a huge wtf for every player since its new for them. My teammates called me retarded for deploying 12 danas, well we won thanks to the danas and they hated it, well they were flaming children anyway. Prepare for teamhate.

edit* The supply chopper Mi can be used instead of the urals, however I find it too risky because its fragile and 5000supply 125p lost with 2 AA rockets. Landing also needs lots of time.

So basically your strategy is to join a game and let your team know they will have to carry you?

No, tough you do have a point. You are just like everyone that does arty in a support role so you do avoid the frontline and let others care of that. You do affect the frontline however in making enemies rout or blow up, also your AA is nearer to your friends instead to your 1p home base with your fobs waiting to get picked up.

Your Mongol Rider won't work against "non beginner" player.
New player tend to loose vs anything you throw at them.

oh sorry for posting this and sorry for not knowing that people do this already since the beta (sarcasm). Just happens that I haven't seen anyone doing this in over 100hours of playtime. Thanks for pointing that out tough. I wonder what kind of badass DANA did that have to be back then.

Replay + an really epic battle showing this tactic off. Would really have loved to see the final outcome without him surrendering. A funny entertaining serious match witch you do not see every day. I thought I loose from middle to middle-end then I changed the tides so nicely. Shows the tactic so well epic gg may it get never corrupted. I am Nero

I watched "nice duel win" replay and... although... 12 DANAs firing together is very beautiful sight, your strategy of dancing artillery didn't look so good...

It was very weak against armored targets (no surprise here)... granted... it scared enemy, but there was nothing in the neighborhood what would take advantage from that. You might consider setting some traps along your escape road next time. DANAs made some profit, but rather thanks to unarmored command cars of your enemy, 4 pieces of artillery would also take them down (also any infantry you destroyed). Only advantage was that with that kind of firepower of yours you just could shoot blindly. On the other hand, if enemy would decide to cut your escape road that chase would be very short one. Bottom line non of your DANAs survived that match, all were chased down. Interesting is that many of enemy units run out of fuel, and were easy to pick. Enemy had advantage in income and still large forces so his surrender was a bit of surprise... Anyway GG...

Your tactics is based on "artillery sits near FOB all game and is easy to destroy" thesis... I would like to say that artillery usually stays there with good protection, and if there is enemy shelling incoming you just move them several hundred meters in random direction.

I've pondered using Dana's to tag along with BMP-685s/BMP-2s a smattering of T-64s or better and naturally some AA.

I hate when someone does this. That's why I kick sub 10s from my games. "I go arty k lol" are the last words I wanna read at the start of a game.
