Tanks, helicopters, infantry, what to chose?

Postby Vince » Thu 30 Jun 2011 11:58

Hello,

You are at the right place to share about your preferences.

Why would you use your infantry for? Why this type?

What should you use in each situation? Do not hesitate to discuss it here!

All of them. Mix units. Manage them well. Own faces. Win.

Can't talk about the rest due to limited info on the unit mechanics. X_X Tactical blob to cover to cover to cover?

Keep in mind blobs tends to wield a "Artillery, Aim There" sign!

Err.. hard to say really since i have not much of an idea of what sort of infantry and armour and so on. But i'd probably go for a mechanized force with armour, mobile AA and mobile artillery support, either that or a more larger infantry force with all the rest thrown in. And in the case of the infantry perhaps pull off some sort of envelopment and use the armour to stop any breakthrough attempts.

In case of mechanized infantry.. try and find any weakspots then hit hard.

Compared to World War II, the extent of mechanization of most armies had increased. For example, the post-war Soviet Army was totally mechanized, allowing it to move greater distances at a faster pace. There was also the operational level of war that they had which would've made such large-scale mechanized actions possible.

Likewise, the U.S. Army was extensively mechanized by the 1980s. However, they did form light infantry divisions as part of their "Army of Excellence" to fight wars in lower intensity theaters.

Yes well the soviet army isn't the only army :P

Plus there probably would be cases where due to losses or other circumstances, would not be able to appear with a fully mechanized force.. or at least i guess.

But i think the bigger picture is not to get bogged into details like that until we know what the devil Eugen are doing with all those 300 units..

I'm going too go Warsaw Pact, majorly Soviet and heavy on the artillery. I've always had a major soft-spot for artillery... it's such an overlooked yet potent combat arm. So my 'main' army is going to be majorly Soviet tanks and artillery, with a noticeable proportion of Czech arty, and East German scouts too spot for all of it. Shore it up with a mix of Soviet/Polish infantry and Soviet attack copters... and there you have it.

If possible, I'm also going too have a second Warsaw Pact army which I'll unofficially label my 'troll army' and officially label it the '501st penal division' or something like that. This one will be completely Soviet and something like 80% infantry, 15% artillery, and 5% armor. It would be based on the stereotypical and horribly wrong image of Soviet human wave assaults. I likely would not use very much, except maybe vs computer skirmish (if that's included).

Well in most strategies i use infantry mostly for scouting the map.
But i see on the trailer there is alot of trees that u can setup anti-tank/anti-infantry(snipers/commandos/scouts) for perfect ambush.

Infantry are very versitale power that in good hands can dominate anywhere.Despite that Mechaized brigades are there worse nightmare and they dying very fast the damage caused by them can be ridiculous in some cases.

My country - Bulgaria was in that Warsaw Pact the right hand of the Soviet Tank armada ready to swept in to Europe in matter of hours. But Soviet didnt focus only produce (Big Metal BadBoys) there streangth was Airborne units - Spetcnaz.Hope i really see them on the battlefield.

Infantry combined with light mechanized brigades and artillery platforms can cause terrible damage on enemy formations (mostly on armor divisions).
The politburo knows what is right,Ours is but to Obey - Politcommisar Valeri Fedorovich 1st Airborne Brigade.

If you always feared the death from above.... I would be your worst nightmare.

Aircrafts, a few specially trained Force Recon units and a small mobile main force with some armour, aa and arty
(if you saw the trailers and remember the numbers of the fighting units the main force would be only 10+- vehicles big, so actually really small)

I put speed and mobility over fire power and armour, but of course as every commander should know...
you just have to be adeptive and use other weapon categorys if it is necessary.

If the game will use an armor penetration system similar to MoW, Theatre of war, I most likely will be swarming/flanking the enemy heavy armor with medium tanks and tank destroyers. Of course this only works if I don't have to cross large empty fields while the enemy takes out my units with single shots... It worked to some degree in the games mentioned above so I'll give it a shot when the beta is released and post some feedback here. :)

I also like to assist/follow other players, I never cared much for being at the top of the scoreboard so I'll sometimes just spend my points on support units and follow the allied armor/infantry. So I hope there will be some kind of follow/escort button.

Regarding infantry, I usually hide them inside forests or inside buildings on both sides of a road and then try to ambush some enemy troops. I used this tactic while playing WiC, but as expected infantry is pretty much for single use, since 10 seconds after you revealed your position your troops will be leveled with 203mm shells and napalm bombs...

Off-Topic
Does anyone know if the devs collaborate with historians, military experts? Seeing how they try to make the game as accurate and realistic as possible, I really encourage them to seek some experts help. Just saying that unless you know where to look, the internet is full of rubbish information. A no-cost suggestion I can give, if they have questions, try asking them on military themed forums, there usually are people who really know what they're talking about.
