Type 85 and 90: decent quality Chinese tanks

Postby TG92929 » Mon 10 Feb 2014 13:39

Since the rumor is that ZTZ-96 and ZTZ-99 might not be included, I can only assume that it might be the case.
I cannot confirm if this is the case, but since they are OOTF anyway, one might as well to just assume that they will not come before free DLCs...
HOWEVER, for some us that are utterly disgusted of spamming tanks like Type 59, we deserve Chinese welded turret, 80-100 point tanks
However, the tanks in my list are within time frame, fully functional, and are either rejected from Chinese military service for they cannot beat latest foreign tanks. They are the very ancestors of later ZTZ-96 and 99 series of tanks, the looks identical, and are appropriate to be the backbone of a quality (category A)Chinese deck.
Here's a list:
Type 85-I
first Type 85 tank, armed with a 105mm gun, I would say that it is T-72M1-ish tank
Image
Type 85-II (including AP?)
the later development, armed with 125mm gun, it will eventually develop into ZTZ-96, so might as well include it to satisfy the ZTZ-96 fans, 80 points will be appropriate
Image
Type 90-I/II(including M?)
even further development of Type 85, rejected from service because it could not match latest foreign tanks (like T-80U), but still better than Chinese tanks before him, it will be good to put it in 100-110 points class.

The reason for me to pose this thread is I believe that we have the right to choose between spamming and decent quality decks. Never mention it is very discriminating to deem China as "human wave spamming only". A quality deck deserves something better than one-shot-only wonder PTZ-59(120mm) and Type 58(T-34-85)
To MadMat: China in RD has a good air force, I suppose that it also deserve an at least decent armored force. Maybe the tanks I mentioned are already in game, if it is the case, then please allow us to focus on technical details of these tanks with this thread.

I take it Type-98's and Type-99's are out of the question :(

They are my favorite tanks too!

I would actually like these tanks in. Giving the Chinese to some extent good modern armor that deals good damage.

I'd be genuinely surprised if China didn't get at least one of the above.

I also hope for the Type 85 and Type 90 series, but I dont think China's tank force would be so deficient otherwise.

One has to keep in mind that the ZTZ-59 isnt the only other tank in Chinese service, but there is also the ZTZ-79 and ZTZ-88 series.

Especially the ZTZ-88 series would be interesting. I'd put their stats around that of the later T-62 variants (especially when up-armored with ERA), but with higher speed (60km/h) and very good stabilizers, as well as accuracy for their long barreled Type 83-I 105mm gun, giving them 2275m range and AP 15 or 16.

The Type 88 series should be the bread and butter of the PLA tank force - well armed, OK armored, good stabs for on-the-move mobile warfare and sufficiently avaialble and cheap for calling in quite some few of them. Especially lacking the ATGMs of the later T-62s, I'd put their price around 60-80.

I read somewhere that the one of the main reason the timeline got increased from 1985/1992 to 1991/1995 was to allow China to get some more modern equipment so it wouldn't make much sense to not give China a few higher end tanks even if they only existed as prototypes. While China won't be able to match USSR when it comes to tanks I wouldn't be suprised if China ended up with the 2nd or 3rd most powerful tank force in pact.
