The (New) Authentic Deck Project

Postby Salamander7734 » Sun 30 Mar 2014 22:34

The Authentic Deck Project (RD)
The purpose of this thread is to put together firstly a collection of decks based on either real, or realistic military formations of the period. Secondly it is to get people together to get a chance to use these decks against each other and later on create a collection of missions that set a series of objectives on existing maps for players to fight over.

Decks.

Spoiler : Hong Kong garrison 1980 :

Short Note:
-the Chinook is never deployed to Hong Kong, it's just a placeholder to represent the other RAF helicopters such as Westland Wessex (which there's quite a number in local RAF station)
-there's report that the Royal Engineer in HK used Sultan but I just happened to run out of slots
-The Gurkha didn't have helicopter in '80 but they (and local units) did use a lot of them in late '80/early '90 for smaller mission so I just choice the Lynx (there was no Lynx in real life Hong Kong) to represent that.
-the vehicle section is semi-fictional, no armoured RE served in Hong Kong but there's indeed record of outdated Centurion tank in Armoured Regiment in HK in the '70 so the AVRE could be viewed as one of them. Also the Saladin is a placeholder for some less famous fire support vehicle (like 120mm recoilless rifles on FV432).
-The Type 21 Frigate could be any RN ship ever been in Hong Kong in the '80, there's no minesweeper in RD so I can't form the Dragon Squadron

This is a combined battlegroup of 6th and 7th Battalions, Royal Australian Regiment.
Included is the UNIMOG mod for ANZAC thanks to W:AB NOOB for helping me do it.
Note: NORFORCE is renamed to LANCERS

Some things in the Battlegroup have been taken due to gameplay considerations i.e. there should only be 1 card of ASLAV-PC, the other should come in M113A1s or UNIMOGs and the prototype ASLAV-TOW and the ASLAV-25 FSV, taken for gameplay reasons as they were never used in such roles or even deployed.
ASLAV-PC employment is 1 per 2 ASLAV-25s, each company(squadron) had 4 ASLAV-PCs with infantry.

LeopardAS1s are in platoons(troops) of 3 IIRC, one squadron is 9 tanks.*

MUST DOs
F/A-18A and F-111C are the ONLY RAAF jets that you can use.
LeopardAS1s are the ONLY tanks you can use.
ABSOLUTELY NO KIWI(NZ) UNITS!!!!!!!!!
NO M108s!!!!!!!!

*Not enough information.

After 30 mins of failing to make a screenshot I decided to just write a list. So here's my "IDF Miluim" deck. Miluim is "Reserve" in hebrew.

Spoiler : IDF Miluim :
LOG:
7 x M151A1CP - "Shmira" (Defence)
13 x M35 Cargo - "Rio". I learned how to do mechanical work on these things. May the heavens forgive you if you need to change the power steering pump.
3 x CH-53 - "Yas'ur" (Petrel) the old workhorse of the IDF
1 x FOB - also known as FOB.
INF:
22 x Riflemen (M113A1 "Bardela"/"Nagmash") - ground troops. A generic battalion.
9 x US Marines '90 (UH-1N Twin Huey) - I needed an air cavalry. Due to lack of choices I decided to go after the Marines. They are resembling IDF Paratroopers ("Tzanhanim") in my deck.
7 x LAAD StingerC (Humvee) - ("Neged Matosim") Dedicated anti-aircraft infantry unit
18 x Delta Force - "Golani" Brigade derivative.
SUP:
"Tothanim" - Artillerists
7 x M109A2 - "Doher" (Galloper) should be A5 variant...but not in the game. So we use what we have.
2 x MLRS - "Menatetz" (Smasher)
"Neged Matosim" - Anti-aircraft
14 x M48A1 Chaparral - sadly no nicknames were found for this little fella
4 x I-Hawk - "Hawk" - how surprising :D
TNK
"Shir'on" - Armored
26 x M48A5 USMC - "Magach 5"
26 x M60A1 ERA - "Magach 6A" - there exist countless translations/origins of the nickname, namely a shortcut to hebrew translation of "Chariot of War Heroes".
REC:
3 x AH-64D Longbow - "Peten" (Cobra)
4 x Navy Seals (UH-1N) - "Sayeret Matkal" IDF Elite SF unit derivative
7 x Rangers (Blackhawk "Yanshuf") - Let's say it's the scouting division of the same "Golani" Brigade
9 x Humvee Mk.19 - Grenade Launchers!
VHC:
7 x Humvee TOW2 - ROCKETS!
HEL:
14 x AH-1F "Tzefa" (Cobra)
3 x AH-64A "Saraph" (Seraph - Israeli flying serpent...thingie)
PLN:
3 x F-16C Block 52 "Barak" (Lightning)
2 x F-15C "Baz"
1 x F-15E "Baz" - a bomb.
3 x F-16C "Barak" - clusters
2 x F-4G "Kurnass" (Sledgehammer) - outfitted with Shrikes for antiradiation sledgehammering. HAMMERTIME!
NAV
irrelevant to the thematic deck

CODE: BtAguOkDgmplqUerJKmOgMAxqYBjUwCcSpyxJUszUMXKGFRSsJWE6kdNMlGSjaZlJL+bNdnG1jcajwSAZBMfHECrpWwrYkDA

So there it is.
I've been running this deck ever since ALB, but luckily in RD I made the addition of CH53, M60 with ERA, AH64D and several fighters.

Of course! If we get a fair few of these I might make a list in the OP for people to use, crediting the deck author ofc :P

Do these decks get used in specifically organised games? because that first British one is missing most of what makes the British deck any good.

I use alot of authentic-ish decks for most of my games, to quite some success.

Well like Bryan I use decks like this every day, and I have played 2 games with the deck and won both easily so it is effective. But using realistic games is more fun with specailly designed games, like this one from the original authentic deck project:

Salamander7734 wrote:
Anyway, BTR how about this (I decided since W:AB is loosely based off table top war gaming to inject a bit of table top imagination to the mission)

The bridge at Oppdal
Introduction
In 1985 the Soviet Union and it's allies in the Warsaw Pact launch a devastating attack on Scandinavia. The British 7th Armoured Brigade, currently in Germany refitting it's old chieftain tanks to be replaced by new Challenger 1 tanks, is ordered to reclaim it's chieftains and set out for Scandinavia. They deploy as part of a new defensive line to stop the rampaging 153rd Guard tank regiment. They decide that in order to slow the advancing Soviet troops they should blow the bridge just north of their position. The Highlanders, supported by 2nd squadron of the 9th/12th lancers and No. 3 Troop, 2nd squadron of the Royal Scots dragoon guards dig in to protect the demolition charge, but are attacked by the 153rd Guard tank regiment before the bombs detonate. If the 153rd Guard tank regiment can take the bridge and defuse the charges then the British position becomes untenable and they are forced to retreat.

Image

Soviet objective.
Get at least one unit of infantry on the bridge for at least one minute, and the bombs are diffused.

British objective.
Hold the bridge until the bombs detonate.

Time limit.
1 hour. (That should be plenty of time to get units on the bridge)

What do you think BTR?
