On ships ...

Postby [EUG]MadMat » Mon 7 Apr 2014 16:45

In this very anniversary day of the death of the Yamato (no, not the spaceship!), here's a brief update on ships ...

Naval battles shall be added to the beta ... soon.
Precise date is unknown, for we'd rather release it by surprise than announce a date which could be delayed by a last minute bug.

In the meantime, here is a sneak peak at a solo campaign's carrier vessel.

As you know, those won't be playable in tactical game, but will act in some of the solo campaigns' strategic maps as mobile airfields for naval air force squadrons + be a naval squadron all by themselves (their supporting task force engaging the enemy to defend the CV).

how are the naval battle groups in the campaign structured ?

a CV/CVN would typically travel with a fairly small group of supporting destroyers and frigates and be reluctant to detatch one, they would normally not have anything beyond that such as FAC's, while FAC's operate in flotilla formations closer in at the coastline.

so would having say a CV-BG off a land zone provide naval aviation support and maybe a single DDG while having a FAC Flotillia off the coast provides a bunch of low-point cost fast attack crafts ?

how do we kill CV's ? American CV's are basically floating airfields, while the russian take on that is armed along the lines of a heavy cruiser...

A CV (carrier vessel, not command vehicle) is practically a task force on which you can task navy aircrafts.
The CV itself being only a strategic asset, in naval battles only the task force + any supporting planes will actually fight.

With the release of ships imminent, any chance you can clue us in to some of the fixes since closed beta?

Looks nice, is it a russian admiral kusnetzov? cause of the ski-jump ramp? or a smaller british invincible class?

so it's "only" benefit is the ability to deploy carrier air within its covered area, it does not provide any direct support.

gotcha! :)
