Focus on Wonsan Harbour!

Postby silverhaze » Wed 16 Apr 2014 11:51

I was very pleased to discover this in the last patch:
A good old 1v1 sized infantry map. Other Red Dragon maps are way bigger, and sometimes its good to have this kind of scale back.

Spoiler : What is Wonsan :
wikipedia wrote:Wŏnsan is a port city and naval base located in the Kangwon Province of North Korea, on the westernmost part of the Sea of Japan (East Sea of Korea) and the capital of that province. The port was opened by the occupying Japanese in 1880. Before the Korean War, it was located in a province called South Hamgyong, and during that war, it was the location of the Blockade of Wonsan. The population of the city was estimated at 331,000 in 2000. Notable people from Wŏnsan include Kim Ki Nam, diplomat and Secretary of the Workers' Party. Economically, the city is home to several major factories.

I didnt played the mixed version yet, as my mates doesn't want to touch Nato ships anymore :( At least untill some hypothetic naval patch.
But what i can say after a couple of games on the ground version is that this is the return of Fjord/Oslo style, for my pleasure.

Thanks a lot for this Eugen :)

I didn't notice it, I'll have to give it a shot. Loved the smaller maps back in EE; this one definitely looks like an infantry fest; that's an awful lot of buildings!

My danish mass-mass-spam deck feels homely on this map, Just like Copenhagen in ALB.

Don't worry! Be happy!

I haven't played it yet, and I don't want to, it looks terrible, the least appealing map.

Don't let all those buildings in the unzoned harbor area fool you, many of them can't be occupied by troops.

Its a container harbour, not many buildings on those anyways.

That aside: This map is a fest for people that like to fight for city blocks with their infantry.

So, good for them i supose.

Containers are just building you can't teleport from. it's still annoying.

You don't have enough Buratinos to stop the Hær Hjemmeværnet. :)
Minors on this map are incredibly fun though, Norway and Best Germany are my personal favourites at the moment.

Stormer up front, Fallskjermjeger flanking in helos. All that good stuff.

Either that or Pioneer & Mot. Schutzen spam to take the town.

Surprisingly, you can win this map with only a couple of veteran infantry / SF if you are very mobile from blocks to blocks, and a few light armoured autocanons here and there to deny your forests to helos.. no need to flood the entire map with line infantry like in Fjord..

What is sure is that heavy tanks won't be kings in there, and fast helos can really help a lot for Delta. Also amphibious assault is possible without beeing detected (wide sea flank).
