I don't read Finnish, but according to the poster of the images, these documents say that the USSR/Russia was offering the MiG-29 and MiG-31 to Finland in 1992. Do what you want with that info.

Thanks for the link. Original documents are always nice, but these are Yeltsin-era events.

Yes, but they go with the timeframe. Just reminding that the F-18 is as much of a contradiction. Anyhow, it would be interesting for Finland to have a true interceptor (Aka Mig-31). Would it be the M-variant, could be. However as of now i don't think Finland needs a new ASF, since they already have one high tier and one mid-tier.

I think Finland is doing quite well in the asf department.

Besides, both MiG-31s are bad.
The SEAD never bothered me anyway.

A purebred interceptor would be a bit of a waste for Finland, considering the narrow geography of the country's vertical axis. There's only so many potential targets and approaches to those targets to defend, so a loitering or scrambled fighter wouldn't have the same problem as when defending the vastness of Soviet Russia. Furthermore I suppose the entire airspace of Finland would be contested from the start of the conflict, so the interceptors' play would be to quickly nip to launch altitude, launch their active missiles at targets identified by ground surveillance, and quickly retreat back to safety for rearmament; a role now filled and much more suitable for the beautifully modeled MiG-29 9-13.

Yeltsin gave a presidential decree to sell modernized MiG-31's (assuming M model) in '92 during one of his drunken stupors as a method to cut the ussr era debt to Finland. The offer has been noted in a few archived news sites but the Finnish airforce didn't take the offer too seriously, likely due to the hornet sale being all but signed at the time and doubts on whether Russia would've actually sold it's premier interceptors to Finland. I've posted some of the documentation about it earlier in this thread but no idea where, might be able to find them by searching for MiG-31+Yeltsin+stupor.

All in all though considering the historical aspect being extremely imrobable and the lineup of aircraft Finland has on the roster in armory, it's not really a viable thing to be included.

Is there a reason for Kaartinjääkäris to use RPD? Why not the blessed KvKk 62?

And isn't the Finnish Marksman supposed to have more ammo? I recall that one of the things FDF didn't like was the low ammo count for Marksman for such a high ROF platform.

Perhaps because KK 54 has more suppression?

I think Kk 62 has better suppression over time as it has more rolls in minute, but not sure. I'd rather have more DPS with SMGs than suppression.
