Need War Footage replay mode (with example photos!!)

Okay so I mentioned this in a previous thread but now I'm really gonna push the idea. It's time Eugen gives us a mode to just sit back and enjoy the stunning visuals, after all our concentration has been spent on the battlefield. We need War Footage mode.

First off, this looks good, but it's so.... gamey. Too clear, too much HUD, too much information.

I want replay mode to have the option of making it look like this (War Footage mode):

Image

I have applied the cinematic black bars and photo-noise effect in photoshop. Notice how the details of IRIS-Zoom engine really start to appear photoreal?

Image

I don't necessarily need this option in-game during combat. However, I feel it would really bring Replay mode to life. Just a simple click of a single key, and you are instantly transported from the battle map overview to a "boots-on-the-ground" perspective.

Image

This would open up endless possibilities for custom skirmish replays, along with the customizable AI decks, to create fan made machinima that really draws the viewer in, with crazy scenarios and preposterous final stands.

Image

And perhaps we could get a "Follow unit from static position" camera option, where the camera locks to a unit and follows it from a user defined location, for better cinematic effect.

Image

To wrap this up, I REALLY WANT THIS TYPE OF MODE. I know I wouldn't be the only one. This s the beauty of modern RTS: cinematic potential. While playing the game is fun on its own, the potential to re-live past conflicts and see the battle from your trooper's perspective while leaning back and enjoying the view is too great to leave out. I love this game to death, and I want to love it even more!

Armchair general porn mode please!!!!

Even though it would be low priority, porn view would be nice along with additional camera controls.

Another big limitation with the camera is the proximity to the ground. You can't get lower than 3 meters. It really hampers the screenshot possibilities.

Still, it is possible to take some good shots regardless.

Can you imagine what this would look like in motion? It's not like applying post-processing filters is all that complicated, simple film grain effect with some contrast and saturation adjustment is completely feasible.

i see your point.

But in replay you can take hud away and reduce the speed of review. you can´t get lower than 3 m from ground. But greating cinematic videos/pictures by editing video/picture which you have captured ingame replay. you can make camera to track units so its easy to look at them from different views. For example if you know how to use free moviemaker you can do really cool looking videos.

Options in game could be good, but for making videos and pictures i think its easier and better quality when usisng video/picture editing program.

as you said would be cool, but i hope that they put their time and money to balancing game, fixing bugs and free dlcs (more maps and units) rather than making replays looking more cinematic.

Deadnation, I know what you mean, that video editing software is more than satisfactory for producing fan movies.

But the point of a "War footage" mode would be to make every replay seem movie-like on its own merits, whilst allowing player control of camera perspective in real time.

First off the camera needs to be unlocked for replay mode. No restrictions for angles or height. Second off the Field Of View (FOV) must be adjustable for zooming in. Third off, the current "sticky camera" system is too similar to the little guy in Mario 64 who holds the camera behind you all the time. We need on-board turret cameras for tanks and vehicles, and nose-mounted cameras for jets and helicopters. We need to be able to have a "roadside" camera that locks to passing by vehicles a-la a Televised motorsport event.

There are so many possibilities for improving camera control. Why wouldn't you want them implemented?

EDIT: Also, there needs to be a "Combat Photographer" camera mode, where the player controls the camera and movement much like a first person shooter (WASD + mouse) from a perspective of 1.5 meters off the ground, with camera shake effects. Ultimate immersion! Just imagine seeing a convoy of MBTs and IFVs roll down the road as you walk alongside!

W:AB Noob made a camera unlocking mod to do just that, I believe. Check out the modding section.

Could you perhaps find the link to it?

I've been scouring W:AB noob's posts and threads, and I can't seem to find it. Would be greatly appreciated :D
