Why do you play the Nation(s)/Coalition(s) you do?

Postby HardlyCriket » Sat 8 Nov 2014 19:22

Since I'm newish here (long time lurker) I figured I'd make a nice fun topic as my first one. I used the search function to see if this question had been posed before and got nothing, so don't execute me if it has, please.

So the question in the title, why do you pick the Nation(s)/Coalition(s) you play?

Me personally, there's lots of reasons, but it comes down to the music. Songs made by or about the Soviets/Russians are too damn good.

Usually how it goes is I'll kick up a game as a nation that is not the USSR and It will be fun, but I will just end up missing the feeling of complete bad***ery that playing as the Soviets with the corresponding music gives. So I'll end up going back to them. It's a problem really. :D

If I’m playing Blufor, it’s Canada or the UK for nationalist reasons.

How about you?

PS. If your reason is something like: "X faction is OP and for n00bs so I play Y faction which is for pr0s," or something else equally inflammatory, please use a secondary reason. I really don't want this topic to turn into a flame war. Thank you.

On BLUFOR I play the USA because I own a cowboy hat and I love M1s, I play Commonwealth mechanized because I like drowning my enemy in IFVs and I play Eurocorps armored because I enjoy winning.

On REDFOR, I use USSR Armored because T-80s and Pact Mechanized because Mot.-Schutzen.

I mostly play Motorized Decks, so the nations I play usually work good for those decks. ANZAC, Canada, Japan, Poland, are some of my favorites. I also enjoy playing the minors as well, just a bit more unique then the usual Soviet vs Eurocorp :/

Also North Korea, made for spamming :D

National, specialised decks only. Because they're fun.

In ALB I rolled either Brit or French, the former because it fits my slow and steady 'turtly' gameplay, the latter because of their great air force complement.

In RD, not so much, but I still play them out of inertia, I guess, also Blue Dragons because you get very good (and above all, cheap) tanks, a neat air force, good artillery and decent infantry. They are good all-rounders.

As for REDFOR, I play mostly Poland (POLAND, FIRST TO FIGHT), Eastern Bloc, and I just recently (read: last night) made a Czech deck and found out just how great those Slavs are. I'd play USSR, too, if they didn't get ridiculously low number of units per cards, kinda makes them unplayable to me since I'm very conservative and hate taking losses.

Shame most of those have to be mixed to be of any use, most of my ALB decks were specialised. Now? Not so much.

I play the USSR because they have reliable AD and a decent selection of everything else; only in a few areas are they less flexible than other nations.

When I play Blue Dragons, it's because drowning the enemy under a sea of 227kg bombs or pulverising their helis with amazing SPAAGs is an opportunity too good to miss.

I usually play national and I try avoiding coalitions, but the Dragons are a lot of fun and I don't like playing the Scandinavian countries, ANZAC or Canada on their own because its all about the sea of units. Recently started playing (and really enjoying) the NSWP factions as national decks (combined they are just ridiculous).

I rarely play specialised decks, but if so, its usually a Support deck with nothing but AA vs bots using nothing but helis and jets (USMC is a fun pet deck though). Don't see the point, because the undivided deck is just so flexible.

I play Commonwealth as blufor and NK or NSWP as Redfor.

I like ANZAC but it's got some glaring holes, so I substitute it with certain UK units.

I'm a bit obsessive with the North Korean and East German military, so I tend to use those unit's, even when it was disadvantageous.
