Best smoke machine?

Postby Prettyhill » Tue 24 Feb 2015 12:15

So whats the best unit for smoking in this game?

Short salvos, fast aim time, short time between salvos, large smoke dots and low price are preferable.

Any better than the Redfor 120mm "Pram family"? Whats the best on Bluefor?

30 point mortar, que it up with multiple commands and you're golden. Fast, cheap, accurate and reliable. Just don't go wasting your ammo on dumb shit like shooting at tanks.

Is there any difference in the size of the smoke dot between 80 and 120mm class mortars?

I use 120mm for the longer range and imagined larger dots. Gonne give the small el'cheapo mortars a spin tonight.

With some easy micro, the AMOS, by far.

The more accurate, the worse, I don't see how you guys can even say AMOS and VPM, they are far too accurate.

Actually I just tested smoke mechanics, and it seems all mortars except the VPM get an aim time buff when shooting smoke. Thus the real best smoke layer (if you prefer 120mms for the power and range) is the PzMrs HS.30. It's the cheapest 120mm, lays smoke just as fast as the rest, and 2 of them is better than an AMOS since combined they have almost triple the ammo load and costs 5pts less.

What micro is that? Shift clicking will call for full salvos and with the AMOS, that means wasted ammo. If the micro involves manually giving a new order after the first shot, it sounds impractical at best.

On the side not, I think smoke is undervalued. Even if it can reduce losses my a significant margin, I don't see it employed too often- even by otherwise skilled players.
