One piece of advice for rookies.....

Postby elipson » Sun 22 Mar 2015 21:16

Alright Vets.

If you could give just ONE piece of advice to new people on RD, what would it be and why?

For me, the best advice i can give to rookies is:

Learn to love your recon units!!!

You're men can't shoot what they can't see. Attacking without recon is suicide, and how the heck can you make plans without knowing what the enemy has? Recon vehicles can fire while not giving away their position, a huge advantage for the recon bradleys, and can keep pace with armour when advancing.

Recon infantry can be deadly in cities, such as the Seals or Formozas, and if you turn their weapons off they are practically invisible. They allow you to see who is next door so you can plan accordingly.

Recon Helos with expectional optics allow you to see practically everything on the maps. Very useful. My loadout typically has one recon heli with expeectional optics, one recon vehicles with either expectional optics or excellent weapons systems, and two infantry recon squads. One rec squad in a helo so they can get to good positions at the start quickly, and one in a vehicle so they can get into cities without being shot down like heli-bourne infantry will inevitably be.

Concentrate on learning how to play in the opening and go from there.

Mix your units, keep AAA with your tanks, have some lighter armor and infantry cover your AAA, assault cities with fire support for your infantry. Same idea for ships, aircraft, arty and everything else, combined arms dominates the battlefield.

Get a mic, find a TeamSpeak server, and escape the slaughterhouse of pubs before it grinds you flat.

Whether you choose to hunt your former pubby brethren or target other teams (as you should) after you learn how to actually play is entirely your choice however. Though if you choose the former, know that I'm coming for you and your CVs.

When you start to lose, don't rage quit. You might actually learn something and get better.
