Swap conquest to economy in Ranked
Economy is more balanced than conquest, so its more suitable for Ranked games.

In over 1500 games; I've still never figured out how economy games work.

You would be back to destructions income system, Which would mean Any pushing that happens after initial deployment. Can only be sustained if you actually make an effort to put commands in zones, Having more than the enemy bolsters your ability to push. No different than Destruction, losses just wont punish you.
I have matches in EE, when I ignore reinforce zones as they only worth +1. At the Start I use the few commands I had to capture the high point sectors and do without being able to reinforce right away. Hold base for a bit use what I got grab positions, than Fall back and get a sector to call more commands and units with all the extra points I've collected.

Accumulating the most amount of reinforcement points while holding the line with the least amount of units.

Description in game describes economy mode pretty good to understand.
You win by deployment points. Win goes to one who has more deployment points in bank at finale. But you gain deployment points from controlling zones. So you must spend some points to conquest those zones. If you spend to little - enemy will crush you, is you spend to much - enemy will have more deployment points even if you captured zones.
But for ranked variant of Economy - "decreasing target score with time" must be removed

it's conquest, but with destruction's uneven income. Or it might be better to call it a time-limted TD where kills and deaths don't matter for the end result.
Comebacks from poor openings are near-impossible unless your opponent is playing for fun and trying to complete the objective, instead of matching points and churning out units. And CV snipes are all the more deadly.
