AMOS is 1996... Gripen is 1996... In the 1990s Japan had some of the most advanced aerospace in the world and packed it into the F-2. Some aspects making it unique include:

-25% larger wing area, larger tailplane, larger air intake (Than F-16 Block 50)
-composite materials used to reduce overall weight and radar signature
-longer and wider nose to accommodate a J/APG-1/J/APG-2 active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar. The F-2 was the first
operational military aircraft in the world to feature an AESA radar, before the F-22 Raptor’s AN/APG-77 AESA radar.
-air-to-ground weapons include: ASM-1 and ASM-2 anti-ship missiles, various free-fall bombs with GCS-1 IIR seeker heads, JDAM
-AAMs:Mitsubishi AAM-3, Mitsubishi AAM-4, Mitsubishi AAM-5, AIM-9 Sidewinder, AIM-7 Sparrow
-maximum weapon load of 8,085 kg. capabilities for four AAMs and four ASM-1 or ASM-2 anti-ship missiles or free-fall bombs and additional fuel tanks.

Considering EF Typhoon and Rafale and Super Hornet F-2 is well within (totally idiotic) WG:RD proto timeframe... Especialy since F-15J has crap avail and crap AAM and JAP does not have ARH platfrom while even Scandi minor nations has... JAP AIR tab is a bad joke...
