Reminder Eugen: Multiply everything x10

Postby integ3r » Sat 4 Jun 2016 06:49

If you're making WG4 or thinking about it, I remind you to multiply prices and income by x10.

So 10 point infantry becomes 100.

Now you can keep 5 point increments, but balance more acutely on lower end units.

Take MG3, too good for 10 points, too expensive for 15. What about 13? Looks ugly. What about 130? Perfect.

So 145pts tank will cost 1450pts, but the same tank with 1 less side armor will cost 1445pts. Totally not ugly, yep.

How about multiplying with 2 or 5? If multiplying by 5, the very best units can go for 1000 points, a nice round figure. Alternatively, 500 points.

And remember we've had the balance steam valves of availability and accessibility. Ie. cards/units and whether they are available in your deck type. Availability may be a bit shifty but accessibility is nice because it increases variety, even if it adds to the already huge balancing work.

Another approach could be that the smallest unit of infantry/vehicles is a platoon and not a squad. Possibly with just a small price hike across the range of units.

How about we divide by 5?

If we're going to have increments make them 1 unit each.

That would change absolutely nothing...

The best multiplier would be four, but maybe they should choose 2 to keep it easy...

Transports never will be balanced in the current system. They get the same vet as their inf unit and are cheaper than the same vehicle without infantry. Which price do you want to choose for it? I'd love to see a system where you can assign more than one transport to your infantry unit. Example:
-You select one 0 18 0 0 0 inf unit
-you automatically get a Star 266 or whatever 5 pnt truck automatically ( with 5 HP and 110 kph offroad speed and no weapon) with the same availabilty as the inf unit
- Then you are allowed to choose two additional transports, which have an availability and vet that is not linked with the inf unit, e.g. you choose a Bradley for 35 points with 0 0 0 4 0 availability and some helicopter with 0 12 0 0 0 availabilty

I think is more easy to do a balance system to work point by point instead of 5 on 5.

Multiplying by 2 seems better, four figure numbers are slightly harder for peoples eyes to read but people can read 3 figure numbers almost instantly.

I talked to a guy who designed road signs. Not a conversation I thought I would fine myself using, ever.
