Mig-31 sucks

Postby ardi223 » Fri 23 Sep 2016 15:24

As the title suggests And as we all(or mostly to be exact) know both Mig-31s in game suck.even compared to tomcats.
I think they deserve some love don't they?
I know about long range interceptors problems we had in ALB.but what's the point of having them if they suck?
At least make them useful

Lol Tomcat currently is in a more dire spot.
Imo the biggest bottleneck is 1 plane per card. Had it been 2 both Tomcat and Mig-31 would be usable.

They have the hidden stats of having the best air detection ability ingame. So yes, they aren't useful in most decks except airborne when you have the slot, and want to detect bombers/stealth planes earlier to intercept

I think the main problem is that Tomcat is overperforming in terms of its missile. It is also SARH with terminal ARH like R-33, yet Tomcat is FnF while MiG31 is not.

MiG 31 and Tomcat should perform the same, with both having FnF missiles. MiG 31M is superfluous in this game.
The SEAD never bothered me anyway.

No it isn't and no it wouldn't.

Because unlike the Tomcat, MiG-31 only shoots 1 missile, while the tomat shoots a volley of 2.

So while USA/Mixed has access to 2 tomcats which fire 4x 40% Acc missiles, USSR/Mixed has only access to 1 MiG-31M and 2/1 MiG-31's which means 2x 40% Acc missiles and 2x 30% Acc missiles (merely SA on top of that) while at the same time requiring to pay a lot more points to field 3 planes.

Which is obviously not balanced at all, because each time you send a bomber vs an USA player you're basically flipping a coin on whether or not you'll make it back no matter what you do. And you'll be flipping a coin until the end of the game or skip on using planes altogether.

While vs USSR no one is stupid enough to just waste points on one MiG-31M since that will never shoot down anything and there's no one even stupider to waste cards and even more points to field 1-2 extra MiG-31's with their crap missiles.

Because you need to intercept planes with them, not just leave them hovering in your backline.
Even then I don't see a use for them outside of US Airborne/Marines

It's not. R-33 is pure SARH, while both AIM-54 and R-37 are inertian plus trajectory correction with terminal ARH. Bur R-37 should be vastly superion to Phoenix: it has more that double launch range and more that double onboard radar detection, plus better speed. Thus realizm-wise buff for R-37 is varranted. Balance-wise... I dunno. Maybe better nerf AIM-54 to R-33 range and acc, leaving it F&F?
