Israeli Lavi 15x Payload Question

Postby AETHER » Sat 1 Oct 2016 08:31

Why is the Israeli Lavi fighter, knocked down to a payload of 10x 500kg bombs? And why the complaints against the 15x 500kg payload?
I don't necessarily view the 15x 500kg payload the lavi carried in the start overpowering. I mean at best I see it as a plane that balances against the Soviet IL-102 and its massive strafe runs as a bomber that wipes out hordes of Infantry, yet no one complains (maybe they do) that the IL-102 is an overpowered monster that needs to be nerfed in payload now? :| :geek:

I'm just wondering why the criticism directed at the Lavi now when the Reds have a similar aircraft or bomber in their disposal? :geek: :?: :?:

Just curious on what makes the Lavi overpowered that it cannot be solved by adjusting the price of the unit.

1) Lavi could not carry 15 500kg bombs IRL.
2)IL-102 is overpriced even now, its survivability rate is pretty low (only 10 percent ECM and slow), Lavi with 15 bombs was better than IL-102 in all aspects while being 30pts cheaper. I'd argue its better than IL-102 in all aspects even now.

Because IL-102 is garbage, it's 30 points more expensive and has 80-pointer survivability on a 180 point plane.
LAVI is a freakign multirole and should never carry that many bombs. Not to mention massive payloads aren't fun to play against.

IL-102 and low survivability? That thing has 10% ECM and on top of that 2 front and rear armor. It literally tanks 9 HE missiles when approaching a target or evacing back to base.

Lavi couldn't and wouldn't carry that many bombs.

Not only Il-102 is slower and has less ECM, it also goes on the target to drop the bombs. I think that Lavi dropped them from turn, like F-16s. It's too much survivability for so much payload. Also look at comparable blue bombers, Tornado IDS or F-16 bombers and how much bombs do they carry for what price. Even with 10x500kg Lavi is still best of them.

There's your first problem.

15x500kg was stupidly OP- even for a 1/card plane. Throw in good ECM, SRAAMs and turn rate and you're just asking for abuse. Such a bomb load (even when accounting for HR scaling is massively superior to the present F-111C.

The present Lavi is going to be pretty OP as it stands. By contrast the Il-102 is a terrible plane die to its abysmal survivability/low speed- tight bomb spread.

I don't think you understand how terrible the Il-102 is. 750km/h is a death sentence for a high-value strile aircraft. It'll never make up its cost.

Although I think the speed and ECM balance it out for the Lavi, I do want to point out for a few people here that while the 15x500kg payload was not entirely realistic, it could still carry 14x500kg bombs and an additional 250kg bomb if it worked only with internal fuel.
