Very Good+ optics scouts for armored decks

Postby Mister Maf » Fri 21 Oct 2016 00:01

Hey everyone.

After some recon vehicles in the Israel patch were re-roled into recon transports with their optics reduced, some decks lost access to ground vehicles (or, at the very least, armored ground vehicles) with Very Good optics.

For armored decks, I never realized how much of a handicap this really is until Commonwealth armored lost the Spartan as a VG optics scout. Assaulting territory over open ground with only Good optics has suddenly become very difficult, and it doesn't help that other armored decks like USSR have access to exceptional optics vehicles which, in the very same patch, got massively buffed sight range.

I looked through the armory at decks that I don't usually use and found that the following armored coalition decks lack ground recon vehicles with Very Good optics:

  • Eurocorps
  • Commonwealth
  • Blue Dragons
  • LANDJUT
Armored decks are all about mobile warfare, attacking and taking ground that infantry- and air-based decks cannot. In order to do this, tanks need to be able to fire on the defenders as they close in, lest they be destroyed before accomplishing anything. Infantry scouts are too slow to keep pace, and recon helicopters are too fragile to get close enough. With only Good optics to escort the tanks on the ground, they can't spot defenders in time to engage them.

Therefore, I propose the following vehicles be added to the armored specialization:

  • FRG SpPz Luchs A1
  • Canadian Coyote
  • SK FIAT 6616
All of these are 40-45pt LAV-type vehicles with 2 FAV and Very Good optics. These vehicles would be able to maneuver in the open with tanks in lieu of a tracked option and help them engage defenders as they advance. Since they have 2 armor, they would be able to take at most one hit before being crippled if not outright destroyed, so I don't think it would be overpowered. With these changes, every armored coalition would have at least VG optics ground vehicles available to them.

What do you guys think?

no love for redfor eh

and do you realise what a game changer wheeled (armed) recon is to armored. That, on top of gazelle cannons and the like, which every other armored deck craves

Lol, in the French armored deck, you can take the wheeled tanks, but not the recon variant of it, rendering the amx10 rcsb totally useless for a deep recon or flanking action...

REDFOR armor usually has access to the exceptional recon, and yet...

I like the Idea. Infantry recon might be good idea too look at too because of the very good optics, some nations or coalition sometimes have limited access. I wouldn't be to worried about getting wheeled recon for armoured as most the IFV and tracked tanks means wheeled recon is usually not supported by much initially in the game.

They all suck like every exceptional optics ground recon.
The issue is not the optics, but that the suggested units are wheeled and armed + armoured.

idk about how armored's played by others, but exceptional optics still feel as worthless as ever.

All of redfor lacks a decent armed good optics heli. The gazelle cannon is available to armored, so why aren't the salamandra or mi-24k? They ought to be added, using that same logic, to make up for that lack.
But that'd be quite stupid, and it's the same with a one-sided change like this one.

By adding the proposed vehicles you're not just making an upgrade. You're unlocking new capabilities. Yet red already lacks many of the capabilities of blue.

WoW, we really play totally different games.

Exceptional ground recon is very good and got better with the last patch. If you use them half competent they can turn every armored assault into a massacre even for ATGM teams and stuff. Also bye bye Recon Bradleys.

But what really is OP right now is exceptional helo recon. Even in the hand of noobs they are invincible watchtowers behind enemy lines, on hilltops or wherever with almost infinite spotting ranges. Poor hobbits would not even get close to Mordor when Ka-52 is hovering tirelessly with infinite fuel xD

Yes please.

My 'Hentai Rising' BD armoured deck hurts after the loss of the SK recon.

Also Challenger spam as a Brit armoured deck lost whatever the VG optics vehicle was. I did bring it up in the patch thread.
