Units (Within Timeframe!) That You'd Like To See But You Know You Absolutely Won't

Postby damoj » Mon 5 Dec 2016 13:24

What sort of units are not presently in Wargame: Red Dragon that you'd like to see implemented, but you are certain won't be?

There's a whole category of weapons - articulated vehicles, chemical munitions, etc - that have been ruled out.

But for me, personally, there are two that I'm certain will never be included, despite being within timeframe and hardly "OP" or otherwise memey.

The 2S4 Tyulpan is a 240 mm mortar. Given the way howitzers and mortars have been balanced in-game, and the manner in which their projectiles are implemented, there is simply no point in including this very unique piece of equipment. Howitzers will not have their maximal range cut short by a bit of topography, and mortar projectiles have identical arcs. Indeed, the only way for such a unit to be implemented would be to, well, make howizter projectiles realistically fast. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2S4_Tyulpan

The other unit, or rather, munition, I'd like to see implemented in-game is the M712 Copperhead guided artillery shell and its Soviet counterpart, the Krasnopol. Such munitions could be carried in limited numbers on select 155mm howitzers, allowing a handful of 0 dispersion shells to be fired per piece, perhaps with a high supply cost. Much like direct firing howitzers, they'd be implemented as an alternate weapon on the same platform. However, there is little appetite for such an addition, for all sorts of reasons, ranging from relative insignificance, possible balance issues, and the whole competitive meta disregarding artillery in general. I think it deserves more consideration.

AAI's rdf proposal with a extremely precise 75mm KE autocannon (ares) would've been a nice fit to the recon/vehicle tab of usa
