Without having any idea of programming.
Why not telling telling the game that white/grey is the new green/brown.

That's not how you load textures in most 3D games. The game is 99% certain to automatically load and adjust the colors of skin without any more inputs than were strictly necessary for a nice looking game. The only manipulations it should be doing are things like shaders and lighting, which are optimized for the purpose of adjusting colors to replicate shadows and highlights as quickly as possible with as few resources as it can manage.

It's 99% certain that there is no place for user defined instructions to be inserted into the game. The only way it will exist is either through entirely new functions and skin pipeline ( which will likely take days to 2 weeks /per skin), or an ugly exploit of the current setup that will be buggy, may crash the game, which will take longer than just writing the new code, and will look awful If you're thinking of just fooling the engine into using the shadow shader to paint white when it means green. Code is designed to avoid trash inputs outside of an accepted set of inputs. If you start trying to exploit code to do what it's not intended to do, the risk for crashing the program increases.

Yeah, the game has to be pretty much written with this kind of feature in mind. Trying to patch it in later won't work.

On that subject, we should know within a month or two whether Eugen are doing another DLC or planning instead to launch another episode of Wargame. I would love it if they did another Campaign DLC but a pure nation-pack DLC wouldn't cut it for me (sorry, not really interested in playing as yet another NSWP country). A new episode, on the other hand, with a revamped game engine, would be a must-buy so long as it kept what was good about RD.

CoH2 is an awful example as the game had more holes than swiss cheese, example, Conscripts merging into Shock Troop Squads to keep the spam up and 1 man 122mm mortars One shotting everything!

I think the Men of War series is a better example for winter maps, as in, it's just a reskin.

Wasn't it attempted during the dev period for ALB and everything was just a white amorphous mess?

Problem is that they would have to do reskins for everything to look like this:

Remember how World In Conflict had a texture system whereby depending on the map, temperate, arid, or winter camos would be assigned to the unit?
In addition to that there was some sort of cool livery system, sometimes I saw Hinds, even Strela-10Ms with Crocodile teeth decals.
