Infantry body armor: Instead of giving them armor, why not increase HP ?
Infantry body armor: Instead of giving them armor, why not increase HP ?
Just a thought about modeling infantry units with body armor: why not give them 2 HP per man? Can the engine do this?

infantry HP is linked to number of men per squad only.
besides, none infantry armour in that era could arguably warrant that much protection.

It would be nice if there was an armor class for infantry that only worked against infantry small arms and only applied to the "front" of the infantry unit. The infantry would automatically move to have its "front" facing the most powerful infantry unit, which would mean that a flanking unit would be able to damage them faster than the one right in front... a great way to abstract flanking movement.

Infantry don't survive in the open? Well, why should they?

Wouldn't the front be towards whoever they were shooting at? Or do you mean that if some PzGrn were shooting it out with MotSchutzen, and suddenly GRU showed up, that they wouldn't automatically retarget the GRU?
I always figured their "front" would be towards their current target. If you want them to shift the front, you would need to micro them to engage someone else.

I believe tanks will turn armor to the biggest threat.

Good point.
In general, the important thing about the idea is that it allows for more diversive tactics and helps change infantry battles, particularly in cities, into something a bit more than a pure grind.

A complete town revamp would be needed to make cities something more than just a meat grinder.
