Wargame "Victorian Escalation"

Postby hansbroger » Fri 9 Mar 2018 05:33

WW1, WW2, 21st century, Middle Ages, Ancient Classical Warfare... All done to death.. it's time to really start thinking seriously about the future of Wargame. That future is the Victorian Era. It's time to see the blood and grime of early industrial age warfare tarnish the silvery aura of the Belle Epoque!

But in all seriousness it would be fun to think/game out unit types, mechanics that would be in such an expansion.

I suggest a Franco-Prussian war campaign where you can organize the french forces that have to relieve Paris of the siege, allowing you to make a what-if ending where you win and make a peace treaty with germany without losing all your stuff  .

Including Fusil Gras as a prototype to replace the Chassepot rifle in the infantry

Please no.

People shitposted about a "ww2 wargame", and look where we are now.
The SEAD never bothered me anyway.

Well, guess I'm signing up 'Flashman' for the UK name list now. Get in ahead of the crowd.
What if Wargame stuck to timeframe?

To me any RTS is funny where you can move your troops as they had radio...

Not improbable by the Victorian Era with semaphore, heliograph and later field telegraph communications (ignoring avian messaging). Even in WW2 a great deal of tactical squad level communications could be expected to travel by bugle or whistle (at least on the way down), which would be funny to hear in itself.

That being said it would be great to see unit responses delayed due to time lag in transmission.

It's almost as if these are games meant to be played for fun, not simulations meant to be exercises in frustration.
My mouth is moving, but nothing relevant is coming out. Also I cannot guarantee that my research is perfect or even remotely accurate.

I have low quality Wargame Red Dragon casts on my youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/user/XanderTuron

Wouldnt mind to play Qing Empire's Beiyang army
Would be interesting, we got
Japanese Empire
Qing Empire
Russian Empire
German Empire
Austrian Hungarian
Italy still trying to form i think
2nd French Empire/ Republic
America
British Empire
Persian Qajar Empire
Ottoman Empire
Spainish Empire? I dont really know much what they are doing this period
The Lowlands
Sweden and Denmark

In any case though, the game needs to change a lot. Such an infantry focused era shouldnt have current wargame design....
and the time frame is very big.... would there be a huge technological gap from early vic and late vic?

Nah dude, if Molni does not like something, it is trash. Just look at Cat B/C games, they are undoubtedly how you are meant to play the game.
